Enterprise, Alabama-based Carr Riggs & Ingram, LLC (CRI) Scholar-in-Residence Dr. Tommie Singleton has been appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) Information Technology Executive Committee (ITEC). Singleton will serve a three-year term on the committee, beginning in October.

Singleton's areas of responsibilities at CRI encompass IT audit, forensic accounting and SAS 70 audits. He also is an associate professor in the Accounting and Information Systems Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and co-author of the college textbook, IT Auditing and Assurance. Singleton is completing his third year as editor of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association's Information Control Journal and author of its IT Audit Basics column, which is published six times a year.

The IT Executive Committee was established to support AICPA members in their understanding and use of technology from a CPA perspective and help them fulfill their role as stewards of information. ITEC serves as an advocate to the broader CPA profession with respect to information technology, its impact on the filed of financial managements, and the risks and opportunities it presents to CPAs in public practice, business and industry, consulting, government and academia.

"AICPA's Information Technology Executive Committee includes many of the most respected experts in the IT and accounting fields and we are proud that one of our own has been invited to join this prestigious group," said William H. Carr, chairman and managing partner of CRI. "Dr. Singleton brings a wealth of academic and practical experience to the committee that will benefit all members of our profession."

CRI created its scholar-in-residence program initially to focus on enhancing the quality of service provided by the firm's accounting and auditing (A&A) practice. The program since has expanded to encompass tax, forensic accounting and firm-wide skills training, including its unique Leadership Academy. CRI's executive committee utilizes its scholars-in-residence to communicate consistent messaging and help implement the quality control process throughout the firm's various practice areas.
