Dixon Hughes Forms Alliance to Address Coding Staff Shortages at Hospitals

Dixon Hughes PLLC and Global Healthcare Resources, Inc., a leading provider of medical processing services, have formed an alliance to offer outsourced medical coding solutions to hospitals.

Timely and accurate coding of medical records is critical for healthcare providers to minimize the billing and reimbursement cycle and optimize cash flow. Diagnosis and procedure codes bridge the gap between the clinical and financial reporting sides of healthcare. Identifying, capturing, and reporting these codes is extremely complex and essential for justifying patient cost, evaluating length of stay, and designing clinical pathways.

However, hospitals are facing an unprecedented shortage of qualified coding professionals. This staffing shortage, combined with an increase in mandated reporting requirements, has seriously hampered the ability of many hospitals to effectively address this issue.

Dixon Hughes' alliance with Global Healthcare Resources is designed to help hospitals overcome this challenge through a strategic and cost-effective approach to outsourcing their medical coding functions. Innovative remote coding technology and staffing eliminates the costs and administrative burdens associated with recruiting and managing coding staff or bringing contract coders onsite. The professionals who perform the coding offsite are college graduates who are trained extensively by coding experts. The program is designed to adhere tightly to coding profession standards, national guidelines, privacy requirements and hospital-specific coding policies.

“Our alliance combines the talents and strengths of two leading healthcare consulting firms to meet the growing demand for high quality medical coding services,” said Garry Bowman, member-in-charge of Dixon Hughes' Durham, N.C.-based hospital consulting practice. “We believe our service is the safest, most practical way for hospitals to solve their medical coding staff problems, improve cash flow and increase appropriate reimbursement.”

“With this alliance, we plan to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of the healthcare provider market by providing high quality and comprehensive medical coding and revenue cycle services,” said Naresh Ghandi, president of Global Healthcare Resources. “We harness the power of sophisticated consulting, process design, sourcing, technology and training to deliver coding services of lasting value.”
