Watch Out For The "Thursday" Virus

Network Associates Inc. reported yesterday that a new Word Macro virus, dubbed "Thursday," has cropped up among banks and financial institutions in eight different countries.

The Word 97 virus attacks the file. What's scary is the virus is what is known as a "sleeper" virus. Users won't know they are infected until December 13, 1999 when the virus will attempt to delete all files on a user's "C" drive.

Users in London first detected the virus. It's now in the U.S. and joins only three other viruses - Melissa, Chernobyl, and ExplorerZip - to receive a "high risk" rating in the past year.

Help is available. Get a patch for this nasty virus at Network Associates' web site
