PPC Offers Online Financial Planning Solution

PPC, one of the nation's leading solutions providers for tax and accounting professionals, says its customers and their clients can now "connect, communicate and collaborate" over the Internet for "total life cycle" personal financial planning.

PPC's new Personal Financial Center (PFC) offers the unique combination of PPC's exclusive and respected engagement guidance and software tools for CPAs, together with powerful new online financial planning software applications for professional advisers, as well as consumer-oriented software and content for the client. The online service operates with a link from the adviser's Web site to an independently hosted Web site branded for the adviser with state-of-the-art security, data-sharing, collaboration and communications capabilities.

The Personal Financial Center is a web-based financial planning platform designed to enable accountants and financial planners to collaborate with their clients using the Internet. "Think of it as a two-way Web site with Adviser VisionTM for the professional and Client VisionTM for the client, both sharing a common database of client information," said Jim Reeves, CPA, PPC's senior vice president, product and business development.

The first module, available in November, is a retirement planning application that enables professional advisers to help their clients plan for retirement. Additional modules are planned for income tax planning, estate planning, college financial planning, and investment planning.

Clients can access their Personal Financial Center directly from their adviser's Web site or, for those advisers who do not have a Web site, access is also available through a separate URL address. The professional's view, called Adviser Vision, includes professional-level financial planning software applications integrated with professional-level content from PPC, and generates client-specific recommendations and a detailed financial planning report. The client's view, called Client Vision, presents a simplified version of the software and consumer-level content, and generates a summary-level report that will encourage clients to collaborate with their advisers to reach their financial goals.

"Personal Financial Center creates a highly compelling reason for clients to frequently visit their adviser's Web site and stay there longer, which keeps the adviser top of mind for financial advice," according to Ken Koskay, CPA, CFP, director of business development for PPC.

Market research based on a recent report by US Bancorp Piper Jaffray Equity Research shows that the number of people obtaining financial advice online will grow to 35 million by 2005 from fewer than 1 million today. "This indicates there is a window of opportunity open today that won't be open for long," said Mr. Reeves. "And everyone in the financial services industry - banks, brokers, mutual funds, even technology companies are offering one-stop shopping for financial services."
