Oracle this week announced, at an event at its headquarters with more than 17,000 joining by Webcast and phone, how the nearly 50,000-strong combined workforce of Oracle and PeopleSoft will provide unparalleled innovation and support to 23,000 applications customers throughout the world. At an event at its headquarters, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and his top executives showcased the new application organization; product and global support plans; and discussed Oracle's market share strength, particularly in specific industries. Oracle executives provided details on the strategies and capabilities of the combined companies, and the speed at which Oracle has moved to support users of Oracle, PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards application software.

"We have brought together some of the greatest people, products and resources in the enterprise software industry. We are in a stronger position than ever before to offer leading technology and industry expertise, greater innovation through increased R&D, and world class support," said Oracle President Charles Phillips. "As a result, customers will be able to experience better products, reduced IT complexity and lower costs."

"Uniting the best of Oracle with the best of PeopleSoft -- now that's a strong product and partner," said MasterCard International's Philip J. Philliou, Vice President of eCommerce and Emerging Technologies. At the event, Oracle further illustrated the benefits of the combined companies to the more than 1,300 Oracle and PeopleSoft applications partners.

"HP has long been a strategic partner and customer of both Oracle and PeopleSoft. Together, our integrated solutions and services create the platform of choice for more than 90,000 Oracle and PeopleSoft customers worldwide," said Carly Fiorina, HP chairman and chief executive officer. "The combination of these two companies unified under a single entity will strengthen the value that HP and Oracle offer to our customers."

Why Oracle and PeopleSoft are "Better Together"

The combined companies offer customers the benefits and stability of working with the world's largest enterprise software maker. Benefits include: One of the largest applications research and development organizations. This newly assembled applications "dream team" of 8,000 application developers will work together to deliver the most modern, Java-based, service-oriented architecture available. In addition to continuing development of Oracle Applications, this enlarged team will also continue to develop the next releases of PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards software.

The combined industry expertise and market leadership of each company. With market leadership in all major industries - including Communications, Financial Services, Media & Entertainment and Public Sector industries -- Oracle will quickly aggregate and increasingly embed this expertise in future product offerings. "Today 40 of the top 100 staffing firms use PeopleSoft to run their business. As an industry we look forward to a combined Oracle/PeopleSoft company," said Andrew Albarelle, Principal Executive Officer, The Remy Corporation.

Around-the-clock support and services available in 27 languages and in more than 90 countries. Oracle's award-winning support organization will combine with PeopleSoft's technical support talent to back Oracle's commitment to provide world-class support to PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards software users. The combined organizations will consist of more than 6,000 support staff in 16 global support centers.

"As a former J.D. Edwards customer in the process of upgrading to PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne 8.10, we are thus far pleased with the commitment Oracle has made to its PeopleSoft customers and look forward to realizing the benefits that the combined companies can deliver," said Darryl Maslar, Vice President, Business Information Systems at Batesville Casket Company.

The ability of the combined companies to develop strategies with customers on how to preserve IT investments, while making room for innovations that give companies a competitive advantage in their industries. In the past year alone, Oracle interacted with nearly 2.5 million customers per month through events, conferences, education classes and its website.

"We are impressed with the commitments Oracle has made to both the PeopleSoft customer base and the inherited J.D. Edwards customer base. We believe that the acquisition will lead to a stronger Oracle and improved return on investment to customers as the product sets absorb the best features of each other," added Ronan Miles, Chairman UK Oracle User Group.

Also this week, Oracle brought out the first release of its Critical Patch Update, which contains software patches for security vulnerabilities in a wide variety of Oracle products. The software is the first such release since Oracle decided last November to begin releasing security patches on a quarterly cycle.
