If you work in a large firm or company, Internet speed really has been a 'non'-issue for the last few years. T-1 and ISDN lines have existed for some time, and now newer connections through DSL and cable modems also have become more readily available.
But what if you're a small business, a practitioner working in a small- or even medium-size firm, or in some other capacity? Where do you find the answers you need to enable faster connections and assess what you have?
Look at three basic areas:
- what is the actual speed of your current connection (as compared to the speed you believed you were buying)?;
- are there add-on services to enhance the access speed to the Internet without changing Internet providers?; and
- if you want to purchase a higher speed service like cable modem or DSL, how do you know if the service is available in your area?
There are many free or low-cost services that enable you to answer these questions, and they are outlined in the link below. Remember, speed is everything. Ensure you're making the most of your Internet connection.
