The Social Security Administration has announced emergency procedures for families of victims of the recent terrorist attacks. Survivor claims will be processed expeditiously and such claims may be filed with one of the following pieces of evidence:
- For people who were in one of the four planes used in the terrorist attacks, survivors may provide a newspaper account of the flight manifests listing names of passengers.
- For victims of the Pentagon attack, survivors may provide a press release listing the names of people who were working in the Pentagon at the time of the attack.
- For victims of the World Trade Center attacks, survivors may provide a personal statement.
Names of known victims are available on MSNBC's Web site, In Memorium, and this listing is also considered sufficient evidence for survivor claims.
Disaster-related claims will be handled immediately by members of the Social Security Administration staff. The Social Security Administration's toll-free phone number is 1-800-772-1213.
