Weaver promotes Hunt, Thomas to partner

Weaver, an independent certified public accounting firm, announces the promotions of Melvin F. "Trey" Hunt III, CPA, to Audit partner in Assurance Services, and Mary K. Thomas, CPA, JD, to International Consulting partner in Tax and Strategic Business Services.

Weaver's Assurance Services group offers audit, risk advisory, forensic accounting, and transaction advisory services. The firm's Tax and Strategic Business Services group offers tax compliance and planning, accounting, state and local tax, international consulting, business valuations, and succession planning services.

Melvin F. "Trey" Hunt III, CPA

Prior to this appointment, Hunt served as an audit senior manager in the firm's Houston office. With nine years experience in public accounting, Hunt's practice emphasis encompasses audit and review engagements for both public and privately held business enterprises in the energy and manufacturing industries. His technical experience includes hedge accounting, complex revenue recognition matters, application of purchase accounting rules, application of stock-based compensation rules, and a multitude of SEC filings. Hunt joined Weaver in 2007 from one of the "Big Four" firms.

Hunt earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Sam Houston State University where he graduated Cum Laude. Hunt is a certified public accountant in Texas. He maintains memberships in the Petroleum Accounting Society of Houston (PASH), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), and its Houston Chapter. Hunt also has authored multiple technical articles on oil and gas accounting topics. His civic involvement includes being an active member at Second Baptist Church - Houston (North), Greater Houston Partnership and serving as the former company coordinator/co-coordinator of Ernst & Young's Junior Achievement program.

Mary K. Thomas, CPA, JD

Thomas, named partner for International Consulting, offices in each of the firm's five locations. Prior to this appointment, Thomas served as the director of International Tax for the firm, overseeing International Consulting. With 28 years of combined tax and accounting experience, including more than 15 years of international tax and IRS examination experience, Thomas's practice emphasis encompasses global restructuring and refinancing strategies; cross-border transactional planning and management; transfer pricing compliance, documentation and tariff compliance/planning and IRS audit controversy services. Her experience includes a private sector medical device manufacturer/distributor and negotiating unilateral and bilateral Advance Pricing Agreement (APA) transfer pricing agreements. Thomas joined Weaver in 2006.

Thomas earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and a Master of Taxation degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Doctorate in jurisprudence from Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C. She maintains memberships in American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and its Dallas Chapter.
