As part of its efforts to be fully “up and running” by the April 26 deadline, The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has added a Public Affairs Director to its growing staff.

Christi Harlan will join the PCAOB effective April 14, 2003, and is well versed in the activities she is about to embark upon. Ms. Harlan has held the position of Public Affairs Director for the Securities and Exchange Commission since January 2002, where she has dealt with many of the issues regarding Sarbanes-Oxley. Prior to joining the SEC, Ms. Harlan held various communications positions in government including Director of External Affairs at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and as Communications Director for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. She also spent 20 years as a reporter, including six years at The Wall Street Journal.

"This is a terrific opportunity to be in on the ground floor of an organization that has a very important role to fulfill for investors and other members of the public. I look forward to working with the Board to ensure that investors and the public are aware of the Board's actions to restore confidence and responsibility in our markets," said Ms. Harlan.

"Christi played an important role in helping inform the public during the most intensive period of rulemaking and enforcement activity in the Commission's history," said SEC Chairman William H. Donaldson. "I am pleased that she will continue that role as the new accounting board undertakes its vital work."

Still to be hired on the staff of the PCAOB is a Director of External Communications, to whom the Public Affairs Director will report.
