Campbell has more than a decade of experience in accounting, having worked with business owners and management teams across industries, including construction, hospitality, and retail. Prior to working at Barnes Dennig, Ison earned his Series 7 and sixty-three certifications as a financial representative, delivering retirement guidance to clients and uncovering sales opportunities. His ability to recognize value in overlooked areas has proven to be an asset in his career thus far, and will surely continue in his role at Barnes Dennig. Ison earned a Juris Doctor from NKU's Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 2012 and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Louisville in 2007 and is expected to earn an MBA in Finance from Xavier University in 2014.

BDO USA, LLP announced an expansion of its San Antonio practice through an agreement with Travis Wolff and its three San Antonio-based partners. For his services to Rebuilding Together San Diego (RTSD), David G. Kvendru, CPA, CGMA, has received the 2013 Public Service Award from the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA). The annual award recognizes an individual CalCPA member for services to his or her community or for governmental service in either a volunteer or elected capacity.
Kvendru has served for seven years in various capacities on RTSD's board of directors. He helped to establish a program in which RTSD purchases distressed housing, repairs the structures, and then sells the houses at a discount to low-income buyers, veterans, and disabled persons.
Last year, the San Diego Business Journal named Kvendru CFO of the Year. He is the chief financial officer for the San Diego Association of Realtors. In addition to working with RTSD, Kvendru volunteers as a mentor with Just in Time for Foster Youth. He provides financial and personal advice to young people transitioning out of the foster care system.
For services to his profession, the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) has presented Steve Wimmers, a San Diego CPA and former chair of the state society, with its Distinguished Service Award.
Wimmers served as CalCPA chair from 2003 to 2004. A former president of CalCPA's San Diego Chapter, Wimmers also has been on the board of the AICPA and has participated in several CalCPA committees at both the state and local level.
In addition to his services to the accounting profession, Wimmers frequently volunteers within his community. He is a former chair of the Peninsula Family YMCA and a past president of the Ocean Beach Merchants Association. He also has served as chair of the Ocean Beach Planning Board and president of the Ocean Beach Community Development Corporation.
CalCPA annually presents the Distinguished Service Award to an individual who has provided long and distinguished service or who has performed a singular act resulting in extraordinary contributions to the accounting profession, to CalCPA, or to the community.
A University of Southern California professor and a University of California, Santa Barbara, lecturer have been named outstanding educators of the year for 2013 by the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA).
Chrislynn Freed, professor of clinical accounting at USC, and Douglas Kulper, a UCSB accounting lecturer, each receive a $3,000 stipend from CalCPA.
USC has recognized Freed with several honors, including two Golden Apple Teaching Awards and two Mellon Awards for Excellence for the mentoring of students. When she was director of the Masters Programs at USC's Leventhal School of Accounting, she worked to expand the master of accounting and tax programs by developing an intensive accounting class for non-accounting majors.
At UCSB, Kulper teaches courses in law, financial analysis, and accounting. He was a member of the team that created UCSB's Strategic Business Program in 2012. The program helps accounting students earn the additional professional development units required by the state of California for CPA certification. Kulper practiced for many years as a CPA and attorney and is the president of the CPA/Law Society of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Cherry Bekaert LLP has announced that Scott McKay, partner with the firm, will serve as the moderator for North Carolina Technology Association's (NCTA) Emerging Tech & Trends panel discussion on compliance with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO). The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at NCTA's Research Triangle Park headquarters located at 12 Davis Drive.

The 2013 Inc. 5000 list is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2009 to 2012. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2009. CPAmerica International announces that Kelly Crandall, of HBL CPAs, and Tracee Buethner, of Widmer Roel PC, will be the incoming chair and vice chair for the 2014 Accounting and Auditing Conference in New Orleans.
As part of a member-driven association, the chair and vice chair have a large role in leading the Accounting and Auditing Executive Committee in the planning of the agenda for the 2014 conference. As chair and vice chair, they are responsible for facilitating the committee calls and participating in planning calls to drive the content of the agenda. They will serve a one-year term that expires June 2014.

Grant Thornton LLP named Andy Tarquinio as partner in charge of the firm's Melville Tax practice effective August 1.
Tarquinio, who is transitioning from the firm's Midtown office, will work closely with the New York leadership team to provide distinctive client service and expand the scope of the Melville office's service offerings. MayerMeinberg LLP welcomes Michelle Dannenfelser as the firm's new senior staff accountant. Dannenfelser joins MayerMeinberg with her CPA license and five years of Big Four experience in accounting. Her responsibilities at MayerMeinberg will be focused in the area of tax.
Dannenfelser was previously a tax senior at Deloitte. Her educational background includes a BBA in public accounting from Pace University and an MS in taxation from CUNY Baruch.
Sandra Sarria, CPA, has been promoted to director in the Tax and Accounting Department of nationally recognized public accounting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLC (MBAF). Sarria previously served as a senior manager in the firm's Tax and Accounting Department. The announcement was made by Tony Argiz, chairman and CEO of MBAF.
Sarria has more than twelve years of experience in the public accounting profession and specializes in various aspects of tax services, including managing inbound and outbound taxation for domestic and international clients, tax research and technical issues, and managing the preparation of state and federal returns. She is knowledgeable in various industries, including health care, high-net-worth individuals, professional services firms, real estate, shipping, telecommunications, and wholesale/distribution. Sarria attended Florida International University where she earned both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Science in Taxation.
Ana del Cerro-Fals, CPA, in the Tax and Accounting Department of nationally recognized public accounting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLC (MBAF)has been promoted to director. As a director, del Cerro-Fals specializes in the taxation of financial institutions, including foreign investment in the United States and investment abroad, as well as providing tax services to national and international public and privately held companies and resident and non-resident individuals. Del Cerro-Fals attended the University of Miami, where she earned both a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Science in Taxation.

RubinBrownrecently named Brandi Lawyer, CPA, Mark Ommen, CPA, and Stacy Peter, CPA, managers in its Assurance Services Group. John Herber, CPA, managing partner, made the announcement.
With nearly a decade of experience, Lawyer serves clients in a variety of industries, including colleges and universities, not-for-profit, public sector, and real estate. She previously served as an audit senior at a firm in Memphis. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis and her master's degree from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
Ommen serves as a manager in the Manufacturing and Distribution, SEC, and Hospitality services groups. In his new role, Ommen will provide financial audits, business performance analysis, and SEC registration and filing services to clients. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting and master's in business administration from Missouri State University.
Peter serves as a manger in RubinBrown's Contractors, Manufacturing and Distribution, and Not-for-Profit Services Group primarily providing clients with risk-based audit planning and business performance analysis services. She is a graduate of Truman State University.
RubinBrown also promoted Mindy Krueger, CPA, and Jason Stalberger, CPA, to manager in its Tax Services Group.
In addition to the Tax Services Group, Krueger serves as a manager in RubinBrown's Construction and Not-For-Profit Services groups providing tax consulting and compliance services. She is a graduate of Truman State University.
Stalberger provides tax services to clients in several industries, but primarily works with those in manufacturing and distribution and cable and television communications. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University - Carbondale.
