A.T. LOCKE has added Scott Taylor as a financial analyst on the firm's rapidly growing team. A.T. LOCKE provides accounting services, business analysis, and financial and strategic guidance to emerging and midsized organizations across the Carolinas.

A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Taylor holds a BS in accounting from Bob Jones University and has served in financial management roles in the Upstate for more than two decades. Prior to joining A.T. LOCKE, he served in leadership roles with Coldwell Banker Caine, IMI Resorts, The Cliffs Communities, Insignia Financial Group, and Mount Vernon Mills during his professional career, which began in Greenville with public accounting firm Deloitte and Touche. Taylor's experience includes a broad range of accounting, financial reporting, risk management, payroll, tax, and treasury responsibilities. He will work with a range of A.T. LOCKE clients across the Upstate from the firm's Greenville headquarters. 


Freed Maxick CPAs, P.C. is pleased to announce that John D. Crawford, CPA, has joined the firm as principal to build and manage a new practice unit out of the New York tristate area. 

Crawford will be responsible for developing the newly established Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) practice across the United States, building key relationships and providing niche service offerings to middle-market private equity groups, venture capitalists, and the investment and commercial banking sectors. Crawford has an extensive background in the financial services industry, both as a lender and as a service provider. The TAS practice is backed by Freed Maxick's specialized team of dedicated financial professionals who offer an extensive array of financial support services.

Gettry Marcus announced that Howard Fine received Long Island Business News' 2013 Around 50 Award. The award recognizes and honors individuals for their leadership in business, support of professional and not-for-profit organizations, and a commitment to the needs of the local community. Fine will be inducted into the class of 2013 at an awards celebration to be held on Thursday evening, September 19, 2013, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York.

In his role at the firm, Fine is the partner-in-charge of Gettry Marcus' Accounting & Auditing Group and its Employee Benefit Plan Audit Group. He also chairs the firm's Employee Relations Committee.

Fine donates his time to his profession and community through his participation in various organizations. He regularly lectures on financial literacy and economic empowerment issues and is on the Committee of the Capital One Investing for Good Long Island Community Initiative: Financial Literacy Challenge.


Gettry Marcus is pleased to announce that the firm has inked a 19,191-square-foot office lease at 88 Froehlich Farm Boulevard in Woodbury, New York, nearly doubling its present space to accommodate the firm's expansion.

Gettry Marcus is scheduled to move from its present location at 20 Crossways Park Drive North, Woodbury, New York, into its new location before the end of 2013. The new space is being renovated to accommodate an open, innovative, and modern working environment for employees and clients. Gettry Marcus chose to have an open layout to encourage more collaboration and dialogue between the different practice groups within the firm. 

The Froehlich Farm Boulevard office campus is located within RXR Realty's Woodbury Corporate Park, strategically situated at the juncture of the Long Island Expressway, Woodbury Road, and Jericho Turnpike. Gettry Marcus was represented in the multifaceted, eleven-year lease transaction by CBRE brokerage team of Philip Heilpern, Richard Karson, and Martin Lomazow.


Grant Thornton LLP admitted Arla Lach as audit partner, David Reitzel as Health Care Advisory Services principal, and Kumiko Watanabe as Japan Business Group partner in the firm's Chicago office effective August 1. The firm also promoted Collette Cummins to Professional Standards Group managing director, Don Lippert to State and Local Tax Property Law managing director, Tim O'Connor to Forensic and Valuation Services managing director, and Tim Schram to State and Local Tax managing director. Across the firm, Grant Thornton admitted thirty new partners and principals and promoted twenty professionals to managing director.

Partners and principals admitted to the firm are thought leaders upon whom Grant Thornton relies to help clients achieve smart, quality growth in all aspects of their businesses. These professionals have consistently demonstrated their extraordinary ability to understand and meet the needs of dynamic companies and industries. They have also demonstrated long-term leadership in the accounting profession and the community.

Managing directors are the highest-level employee position in the firm and are important members of the firm's leadership team.

Lach joined Grant Thornton in 1999 and has nearly fifteen years of experience in public accounting working primarily with organizations that manufacture industrial and consumer products. She has extensive experience in providing auditing and accounting services as well as in the review and improvement of internal control systems. Lach is a CPA in Illinois and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois.

Reitzel joined the firm in 2010. He has significant experience enabling health care providers and not-for-profits to improve clinical and revenue cycle operations, achieve regulatory compliance with changing legislation, manage risk, contain costs, enhance the use of technology, and streamline business processes. Reitzel is a certified management consultant and a certified professional in health information exchanges. He received a master's in business administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor's in business administration and international business from Carthage College.

Watanabe joined Grant Thornton in 2011 and specializes in the US taxation of foreign-based multinational corporations. She has significant experience in income tax provision, restructuring, transfer pricing, R&D studies, IRS audit support, and cost segregation studies. Watanabe is a CPA in Illinois and a frequent speaker at tax forums with Japanese professional organizations and has authored numerous tax articles. She received a master's in taxation from DePaul University and a bachelor's in accountancy from Northern Illinois University.

Cummins rejoined the firm in 2006 and has nearly fifteen years of experience in auditing and financial reporting. She has been heavily involved in the development of the firm's audit methodology, the firm's new suite of audit tools, and related training and communications. Cummins is a CPA in Illinois and Texas and received a master's in business administration in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas and a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University.

Lippert joined Grant Thornton in 2006 and specializes in property tax consulting and valuation services. He has twenty years of professional experience and has worked extensively with manufacturing, airlines, telecommunications, hospitality, senior living, financial services, retail, high-tech, health care, and energy industries. Lippert is a certified member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) and an associate real estate appraiser in the state of Illinois. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bradley University.

O'Connor joined the firm in 2007 and leads the Valuation Services practice in Chicago. He has more than twenty years of experience encompassing the valuation of business interests, capital stock, financial assets, and intellectual property for private and public clients in a wide range of industries, primarily consumer and industrial products. O'Connor is a member of the American Society of Appraisers and the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He received a master's of business administration degree from the University of Chicago and a bachelor's in engineering from the University of Illinois.

Schram joined the firm in 1998 and is the national leader of the firm's Credit and Incentives practice. He has twenty years of experience negotiating for state and local incentive packages on behalf of clients. He has successfully assisted clients secure incentives through such programs as sales tax sharing agreements, cash grants, property tax abatements, and refundable income tax credits. Schram is a CPA in Illinois and a regular speaker and contributor to articles for organizations in the state and local incentives field. He received a bachelor's degree in finance from Indiana University. 


Grant Thornton LLP has been named to this year's InformationWeek 500 – a list of the top technology innovators in the United States. In its first year appearing on the list, the firm was recognized for the adoption of Cloud computing and infrastructure technology. The technology has improved the speed, quality, and predictability of IT service delivery, while reducing hardware costs and time spent on projects.

With the new technology, the firm's technology quality assurance teams leverage Cloud infrastructures to begin testing earlier than with previous testing environments, which had to be conducted at a specific location. By allowing development teams to focus on quality solutions and unit testing rather than test builds and other infrastructure issues, the firm has improved testing efficiency by 20 percent.

Holtzman Partners is pleased to announce that Chris Perkins, CPA, has been selected as managing partner effective September 1, 2013. Perkins' appointment marks the continuing growth of Holtzman Partners. 

Perkins has practiced public accounting for over twenty years and will continue his active practice, advising both public and privately held clients in the technology, construction, nonprofit, and manufacturing sectors. Beyond this, he has extensive experience advising software, SAAS, and emerging market companies. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. 


Public Accounting Report has ranked the School of Accountancy at theJon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University (USU) at thirty-fourth in the nation, with its graduate program at thirty-seventh.  

This is the first year the graduate program has been nationally ranked by the Public Accounting Report. The undergraduate program made the list for the first time in 2012 when the publication ranked it forty-sixth in the country. The rankings are based on a survey of accounting professors across the country. 

Larry Walther, who heads the School of Accountancy, said he believes a number of things have raised the profile of the School of Accountancy, including the news that:

Jill Aoki and Anthony Lemon, who graduated with master's in accounting degrees from USU in 2012, both earned the Elijah Watt Sells Award this year. Of the more than 92,000 graduates who took the CPA examination, only thirty-nine scored high enough on the test to qualify for the award.

This year Huntsman students and officers of the accounting club Beta Alpha Psi traveled to a Deloitte Best Practices contest and took first place in two areas at the regional competition that drew people from across the country. The contest assessed their ability to be innovative and imaginative. 

Three new, highly regarded faculty members joined the School of Accountancy in 2012:  Richard Price, from Rice University; Chad Simon, from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Nicole Forsgren-Valasquez, from Pepperdine University. 

Jeffrey Doyle, George S. Eccles Chair in Capital Markets Research, recently returned from a one-year appointment as the faculty research fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). 

Brian Monsen, who graduated with a master's in accounting degree in 2010, was named a post-graduate technical assistant at FASB and has since returned to teach summer classes at the School of Accountancy.

Huntsman Professor Nate Stephensand his coauthors were honored with two "Best Paper" awards at the 2012 American Accounting Association meeting.

Walther said that these accomplishments and others, coupled with professors serving in leadership positions in national accounting organizations, have raised the profile of the Huntsman School of Business and may have helped the school earn this national recognition.  


Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), one of the Southeast's largest accounting and business consulting firms, is pleased to announce that the Planning Services Team is offering a transition planning workshop at the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce on September 24 from 8:00-11:30 a.m. The workshop is targeted to family-owned businesses that are looking for some help in preparing for upcoming transitions.

LBMC will walk attendees through the steps of the transition planning process using relevant examples to ensure a good understanding of what they need to do, why they need to do it, and how best to approach the process. 

The workshop panel will bring together some of Tennessee's top experts, including LBMC's Dennis Blanton, David Smith, Chuck Tomlin, Allen Hovious, and Cathy Boettner.

LBMC announced three new senior level audit department promotions in the Brentwood (Nashville) office. CPAs Courtney Bach, Eric Kimmerling, and Hunter Ray have been named managers to assist LBMC with the fast-paced growth in the health care, not-for-profit, and manufacturing and distribution industries. 

Bach has been with LBMC since 2008 and has diversified experience, including health care, manufacturing, and not-for-profit organizations and employee benefit plans. A graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Master of Accountancy, Courtney was selected to be included in the 2013 Leadership Brentwood class and is now a proud alumni of the leadership program. 

Kimmerling has over six years of diversified experience with a variety of industries, including manufacturing and distribution, employee benefit plans, and not-for-profit organizations. As one of LBMC's not-for-profit industry leaders, he has extensive experience serving the not-for-profit industry, including private schools, environmental organizations, religious, and health and welfare organizations. Kimmerling has performed various assurance engagements performed under governmental auditing standards and those subject to OMB Circular A-133. 

Ray has diversified experience in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, technology, service, not-for-profit, and employee benefit plans. He received his Master of Accounting from Murray State University in 2008.


LBMC Technologies, LLC, the Southeast's leading full-service technology firm and a member of the LBMC (Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC) Family of Companies, is pleased to announce the recent addition of Terry Payne to the network operations division in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.                               

Payne joins LBMC Technologies as a technology software developer. He comes to LBMC from Vanderbilt Medical Center where he worked as web developer and research intern with Vanderbilt's Biomedical Informatics Department. Payne graduated from MTSU with a bachelor's degree in computer science.  


Moss Adams LLP, one of the largest accounting and consulting firms in the nation, is proud to announce the admittance of seven professionals to its partnership, effective October 1. The new partners – based in six of the firm's twenty-two offices – are leaders in their respective industries and have demonstrated not just technical expertise but also a deep commitment to client service. 

Kelvin Tetz was named a partner in the San Francisco office. Tetz provides audit and advisory services to real estate and construction companies across Northern California and the country.

Kami Refa was named a partner in Orange County, California. Refa serves technology, manufacturing, and consumer products companies, providing audit, internal control, and financial consulting services.

In Portland, Oregon, Wendy Campos and Eric Balentine were named partners. Campos provides tax compliance and strategic planning services to tax-exempt organizations, and Balentine provides audits and accounting services to multinational companies, particularly in the manufacturing and consumer products sector.

Jason Munn was named partner in Spokane, Washingon. Munn provides corporate taxation and compliance services to multistate and multinational companies, and he is an ASC 740 designated reviewer. 

Robb McEachran was named partner in the Seattle office. McEachran works in the firm's technology practice, providing financial statement audits and reviews of filings for public registrants as well as services related to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. 

Dustin Birashk was named partner in Everett, Washingon. Birashk provides audit, tax, and consulting services to credit unions, mortgage companies, and community banks.


The members of Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC are pleased to announce that Brooke A. Murphy, EA, has received QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certification. 

Brooke Murphy recently earned the QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification from Intuit's Certified ProAdvisor program. The QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification is awarded by Intuit to accounting professionals who have a solid understanding of accounting principles and who have a fundamental knowledge of QuickBooks software. Certification is granted upon successful completion of a certification exam.

Brooke graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She is also certified as an enrolled agent. She joined Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC in 2005 and is a supervisor. Brooke serves individual, business, and nonprofit clients in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania, office.
