Ted Dickman, BKD, LLP CEO, is proud to announce the firm’s 2012 PRIDE Award winners: Randy Oberdiek, a partner in the Kansas City, Missouri, office and Michael Neathery, a manager in the firm’s Little Rock, Arkansas, office.

The award is given each year to one partner and one employee who exemplify the firm’s PRIDE values: passion, respect, integrity, discipline, and excellence. BKD partners and employees nominate their peers for the award, and the winners are chosen by the firm’s governing board.

Oberdiek, a seventeen-year veteran, has served as accounting and auditing director for BKD’s North Region since the firm’s regional leadership structure was established in 2008. He oversees the accounting and auditing practice across eleven offices in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Illinois. Neathery has been with the firm for six years. He is an active recruiter and a champion for the firm’s computer-assisted auditing procedures. He also serves on the firm’s Employee Engagement Council.

“Randy and Michael are an inspiration to their clients and coworkers,” Dickman said. “Randy has years of experience serving as a teacher and mentor to his colleagues on technical issues and client service skills, while Michael’s personality and work ethic make him someone everyone wants to be around. Congratulations to these individuals on earning the firm’s highest honor.”

Both honorees will receive their awards during a ceremony at “One Great Week,” the firm’s annual leadership conference in St. Louis, Missouri, mid-October.


The CPA and advisory firm of DeLeon & Stang is pleased to announce the addition of Christopher S. Stang to its professional staff. 

“We are excited to be recruiting some of the best young talent the profession has to offer,” said Allen DeLeon, CPA, PFS, partner of DeLeon & Stang. “We look forward to the positive contributions Chris will provide to our team and our clients.”

Stang joins the firm as a staff accountant in the tax business services department. In this role, he will be responsible for performing general accounting and tax services for both individuals and corporations. 

Stang is a recent graduate of West Virginia University, where he received a Master of Business Administration and a BS degree. 


Elliott Davis, LLC, an accounting, tax, and consulting services firm in the Southeast, is pleased to announce that Drew Rogers has been named among the “Best & Brightest 35 and Under” by Greenville First Bank and Greenville Business Magazine.

The “Best & Brightest” awards honor local, young professionals who have been identified by the community through a nomination process as Greenville County's future leaders.

A CPA and personal financial specialist, Rogers is a senior tax manager in the firm’s Greenville, South Carolina, office. He was recognized on September 18 at an awards ceremony held at the Greenville Little Theatre. Additionally, he is featured in the September issue of Greenville Business Magazine.

At Elliott Davis, Rogers focuses on income tax planning for high-net worth individuals; estate planning; and taxation of investment partnerships, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses. 

Rogers earned a Master of Professional Accountancy and a BS in financial management from Clemson University.


ExecRank has named Tobias Lee, chief marketing officer for the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters, one of the nation’s top CMOs.

Lee ranks sixtieth on ExecRank’s list of the 500 top CMOs for 2012. ExecRank evaluated over 15,000 CMOs to select this year’s top 500.

“We were extremely impressed with the achievements of Mr. Lee, specifically his ability to drive business results and repeat customers through innovative engagement and branding strategies,” said Dallas Bond, lead analyst for the research division of ExecRank. “His broad scope of marketing experience and history of success with both start-ups and large multinational companies are apparent in his ability to lead the marketing team and its initiatives at the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters.”

This year’s nominees demonstrated a heavy focus on social media marketing as well as engagement strategies that break through the clutter and show a positive return on investment, according to ExecRank. Many released books with top-tier publishers or engaged in other forms of thought leadership, which factored heavily into the rankings.

Lee oversees global marketing strategy including branding, creative services, demand generation, public relations, customer excellence, and online marketing for the Tax & Accounting division of Thomson Reuters. He holds a BA in law from the University of California at Santa Barbara and an MBA from the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.


Foundation Financial Group (FFG) employees at its Raleigh Regional Sales Center, located at 701 Exposition Place, participated in the Zombie Escape at Panic Point Raleigh Mud Run that took place on September 8. The five kilometer race through open fields, forest roads, mud pools, water crossings, and sixteen obstacles benefited Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The FFG team completed the course in their support and also made a monetary donation to the cause.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals touch the lives of more children and their families than any other children’s charity. Whether they suffer from common childhood afflictions like asthma and broken bones, or fight bigger challenges like birth defects or cancer, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment, and hope to millions of sick kids each year in local communities. 

“This was a great way for all of us to have a lot of fun while getting a great workout and supporting an amazing cause,” said Steve LeGost, division general manager at FFG. “I am excited to support a cause that helps local children in need.”

FFG in its Savannah regional sales center announced the expansion of its office suite at the Commerce Park Center LLC office building in Savannah, located just outside the historic downtown area. With expansion plans calling for the doubling of its office space, FFG anticipates a parallel expansion in staffing of up to 94 percent, bringing new jobs to the Savannah market. With the construction underway on the added space and a five-year lease renewal signed, FFG solidifies its occupancy at 17 Park of Commerce, where it has been a tenant since May 2009.

“We’ve had this expansion planned since the Savannah regional sales center was launched in 2009,” said CEO Mark W. Boyer. “I am very happy to see this goal reached. This additional space allows us to continue our growth in Savannah and carry on our commitment to the area, its economy, and its community.” 


FFG employees in offices in Greenwood, Indiana; Indianapolis, Indiana; Toledo, Ohio; and Dayton, Ohio united to raise funds for the Special Olympics Ohio Foundation on September 8, 2012. The group competed in the 2012 Dayton Plane Pull at the Dayton International Airport. During the event, the group of FFG employees tug-of-war pulled a Boeing 727-200 aircraft down the tarmac and competed in distance and time with other Special Olympic supporters. This was the first event of its kind in the Dayton area.

“The Special Olympics is an organization that’s making a difference in the world, through awareness and support. I’m proud to work for a company that shares this level of passion for people; supporting our community involvement and committing to helping make those communities better for the future,” said FFG Group Event Coordinator Lindsey Riley. “Participating in the 2012 Dayton Plane Pull is our way of supporting athletes with disabilities and helping to further their accomplishments.”  


KatzAbosch, certified public accounting, tax, and consulting firm, is proud to announce that Scott Mattingly, CPA, CFP has recently earned the Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS) designation. This professional designation is awarded by the College for Financial Planning to individuals who specialize in creating, implementing, and maintaining retirement plans for businesses and their employees. In addition to obtaining the CRPS designation, Mattingly is also is a member of the firm’s Business Accounting Solutions Group and Tax Department. 

The CRPS program employs a case study-based, client-centered, problem-solving approach. It covers the types and characteristics of retirement plans, including IRAs, small business retirement plans, defined contribution plans, 401(k) plans, and nonprofit and government plans. It also encompasses plan distributions, plan design and implementation, plan establishment and operation, and fiduciary issues.

Once completing the study program, individuals must pass a rigorous exam demonstrating their expertise. Successful applicants earn the right to use the CRPS designation. Every two years, CRPS professionals must complete sixteen hours of continuing education to continue using the designation.


The Indianapolis-based CPA firm of Katz, Sapper & Miller LLP (KSM) is pleased to announce the promotion of three new directors – Peter Buck, Joshua Malarsky, and Shaun Tipton; and nine new managers – Kinsey Arnett, Ashley Christie, Matt Gard, Justin Hayes, Tiffany Hernandez, Karen Hill, Daniel Larson, Zeeshan Malik, and Lee Schreyer.

Buck is a director in the firm’s Audit and Assurance Services Department and a member of the Not-for-Profit and Governmental Services Group. He provides accounting and consulting services in an array of industries, including not-for-profit, government, hospitality, and insurance, assisting clients with financial statement audits and reviews and consulting.

Malarsky is a director in the firm’s Real Estate Services Group. He provides accounting and tax services for clients in a variety of industries, with a specialization in the real estate field. He has advised on numerous transactions, including sales and purchases of retail, commercial, and residential real estate developments, historic and new markets tax credit projects, and real estate investment trusts structure and compliance. He is also part of the firm’s Aviation Services Group and works with like-kind exchanges, income tax planning, and structuring related to privately held aircrafts. 

Tipton is a director in the firm’s Business Advisory Group. He works with numerous clients and advises them in tax planning, consulting, and other business and accounting services. Tipton is responsible for the preparation and review of financial statements and tax returns. Additionally, he serves on the firm's Transportation Services and Dealership Services Groups.

Arnett is a manager in the firm’s Tax Department. She provides consulting services to a diverse clientele on technical tax matters, and her primary responsibilities include analytical research and technical review of federal tax issues. She also provides tax preparation and planning services to clients in the areas of individual taxation, international taxation, trust, and not-for-profit taxation. She has experience with all types of entity taxation as well. 

Christie is a manager in the firm’s Real Estate Services Group. She is responsible for preparing client financial statements, tax returns, and business plans as well as providing other general business and accounting services. Additionally, she is a participant in the firm’s Recruiting and KSM Bright Ideas committees.

Gard is a manager in the firm’s Audit and Assurance Services Department. His primary responsibilities include auditing and reviewing financial statements as well as advising clients on accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal control-related matters; he is also involved in the preparation of financial statements. Gard’s main areas of focus are transportation and manufacturing and distribution.

Hayes is a manager in the firm’s Audit and Assurance Services Department. His primary responsibilities include auditing and reviewing financial statements as well as advising clients on accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal control-related matters; he is also involved in the preparation of financial statements. His main areas of focus are manufacturing, wholesale and distribution, and real estate.

Hernandez is a manager in the firm’s Healthcare Resources Group. Her background includes providing accounting, tax, and assurance services to a wide variety of businesses, including healthcare clients. She offers experience in the areas of financial statement analysis, tax planning, and tax compliance, including business tax, individual tax, trust taxes, and gift tax. 

Hill is the recruitment manager for Katz, Sapper & Miller. She has been with the firm since 1993 and oversees all internal recruiting efforts for campus hires and experienced staff.

Larson is a manager in the firm’s Business Advisory Group. He provides financial advice and aids clients in the management of their businesses. Larson is also responsible for the preparation and review of client financial statements and tax returns, in addition to aiding clients with tax planning, consulting, and other business and accounting services. His main areas of focus include transportation, dealerships, veterinary practices, and real estate.

Malik is a manager in the firm’s Audit and Assurance Services Department. He audits and reviews financial statements and advises clients in accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal control matters. His main areas of focus are transportation, construction, and financing.

Schreyer is manager in the firm’s Audit and Assurance Services Department. His primary responsibilities include auditing and reviewing financial statements as well as advising clients in accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal control matters. He has experience in a number of industries, including real estate, manufacturing, and hospitality.


Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), Tennessee’s largest regional accounting and business consulting firm, has added Lauren Rogers, CISSP, in its Security and Risk Services Practice in the Brentwood (Nashville) office. LBMC Security and Risk Services provides a wide range of services, including compliance and IT security services to organizations of all sizes, without geographic restriction.

Rogers has joined the firm in a senior consultant position. Previously a security analyst at AdvanceMed, an NCI company and federal contractor, she brings a wonderful depth of operational experience as well as a unique background working in the health care industry and with the US Department of Defense. Rogers is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a master’s degree in information assurance. She joins a talent-rich team of information security and risk professionals whose services have experienced tremendous growth during the past several years. 


Shannon Simmons has joined LBMC as a staff member with the tax department, where she will be working closely with business clients in the entrepreneurial services group. Previously an accountant at Aegis Sciences Corporation, she brings a depth of experience including working in corporate health care accounting.  She is a graduate of Belmont University with a master’s degree in accounting.  

LBMC has added Gretchen Bates in its Brentwood (Nashville) office. Bates has joined the firm as a staff member with the tax department’s wealth management team. She previously served as a tax intern for LBMC as well as CRI. Bates she is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a bachelor’s degree in drama and went on to earn her master’s in accountancy from Belmont University. 

In addition, LBMC has added healthcare consultant, Katie Graham, to its Knoxville office. Graham has joined the accounting firm as a senior consultant within the Healthcare Consulting division. She previously worked as director of marketing and special projects for Medical Practice Management, LLC. Graham brings a solid foundation of knowledge of the ever-changing healthcare environment, specifically working with physician practices. She is an active member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and recently joined the Knoxville chapter of the organization. Graham is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in speech communication.


LBMC Employment Partners, LLC, a member of the Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC) Family of Companies, has added Kaitlin Grigsby in its Brentwood (Nashville) office. Grigsby has joined in a client development role after serving in the LBMC human resources department for over two years. In her new role, she will be utilizing her vast HR expertise in a new position designed to help with the growth of the Employment Partners division. A graduate of Belmont University, Grigsby is an active member of the community in a variety of organizations both civic and professional.

Atlanta-based accounting firm, Moore Colson, recently announced the hiring of John Cummings, CPA, as senior manager in the Business Assurance Practice. In this role, he will provide leadership for accounting and financial due diligence services associated with merger and acquisition transactions as well as business assurance services associated with financial statement audits for the firm. Cummings is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a BS in accounting.
