Phoenix-based tax and energy consulting firm Capital Review Group (CRG) announced the promotion of Charles "Chuck" Duncan to regional director of Pacific Northwest. Duncan joined CRG's Pacific Northwest office in the Seattle, Washington area in 2011, where he was responsible for regional business development, and most recently took on the role of Senior Associate. Duncan has expertise in §179D energy efficiencies, cost segregation/depreciation and is a business development specialist.
Duncan is a long-time resident of Washington, where he studied Construction Theory and Management in the Engineering Department at Washington State University in Pullman. He brings over twenty years of successful sales-focused experience in the IT and communications industry to CRG, with outstanding performance for companies such as Cray Research, Sun Microsystems, and AT&T Mobility.
Duncan has proven to be a valuable asset to the CRG Pacific Northwest Territory team and is pleased to continue building business for the company in this senior leadership role. His keen understanding of the drivers influencing the construction and engineering business and how it is changing the Northwest landscape has been invaluable in promoting CRG's mission throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, L.L.P. (CB&H), a national public accounting and consulting firm headquartered in the Southeast, has announced that Collin G. Hill, former senior manager, has been promoted to audit partner of the firm's MidCarolina practice. As leader of MidCarolina's technology and life sciences group, Hill assists clients in all phases of financial auditing and consulting services and guides them through complex accounting issues including revenue recognition, share-based compensation, and intricate debt and equity financing transactions. Collin's fraud experience includes investigations and reporting on expense schemes, lapping, and skimming. Collin is also a leader in CB&H's government services and manufacturing and distribution industry groups. Collin earned a BS in both accounting and computer information systems from Appalachian State University.
Freed Maxick CPAs, P.C. announces that Jennifer Jarvis Hamberger has joined the firm as chief marketing officer (CMO). With over twenty-five years of marketing experience, her extensive background of progressive leadership experience includes developing, implementing, and measuring marketing programs for a variety of organizations, including B2B, service, and consumer packaged goods companies.
Most recently, Hamberger spent a year with a large global leader in the over-the-counter pharmaceutical industry. In her most recent role with the company as director of brand communications, she managed internal communications professionals and external agencies involved in strategic planning, development, and execution of brand marketing and communications. During her tenure, she also developed and managed all consumer and retail marketing strategies, including product development, positioning, pricing, and promotion for numerous established brands and innovative new products.
Grant Thornton LLP announced that Michael Patanella, CPA, will assume responsibility as leader of the firm's National Asset Management Sector.
Patanella has more than fifteen years of public accounting experience, serving a wide range of financial services companies. His former and current clients include hedge funds, private equity firms, clearing and introducing brokers, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds. He authors thought leadership articles for Grant Thornton LLP's Asset ManagementAdviser and has authored papers that have appeared in several hedge fund journals. Patanella also leads the firm's training on the intricacies of hedge funds and related accounting, reporting, and regulatory updates. Patanella attended Saint Joseph's College in New York and earned his bachelor's in accounting.
Hartman Leito & Bolt, LLP (HLB), a full-service accounting and consulting firm, has been named a 2012 All-Star Firm by INSIDE Public Accounting for its outstanding work in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and one of the 2012 Best Accounting Firms to Work For by Accounting Today and Best Companies Group. KPMG LLP, the US audit, tax, and advisory firm, announced that P. Scott Ozanus has been elected to serve as deputy chairman and COO of the firm. Ozanus, who most recently held the position of vice chair of KPMG's tax practice, was elected to the second-ranking leadership position by the KPMG Board of Directors and ratified by the full partnership. Ozanus succeeds Henry Keizer, who is retiring at the end of the year.
KPMG also announced that Jeffrey C. LeSage will succeed Ozanus as vice chair of the firm's tax practice and that Laura Newinski will assume LeSage's role as national managing partner of tax.
Ozanus has more than thirty years of experience in what are now the Big Four international accounting, tax, and advisory firms. He joined KPMG in 2002, and prior to serving as vice chair of the Tax practice, was the Western region managing partner for Tax. Earlier, Ozanus served as managing partner of KPMG's Dallas office and Southwest area managing partner. Under his leadership, the US Tax practice has grown significantly faster than the industry average. Ozanus began his career in the Dallas office of Arthur Andersen. Ozanus earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M University.
LeSage joined KPMG in 1986 and was named to the firm's partnership in 1992. He has served as national managing partner of the tax practice since July 2010. During his tenure, the practice saw strong, steady growth, reflecting a focus on providing outstanding service and business insight to clients. He has held several leadership positions in his twenty-five years with the firm, including serving as the Eastern region managing partner for Tax Services, area managing partner for KPMG's Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions from 2003 to 2008, and the Global partner-in-charge of KPMG's International Corporate Services practice.
Newinski joined KPMG in 1988 and was elected to the partnership in 1997. She previously served as the Tax partner in charge for KPMG's Northern Heartland Gateway West business unit and most recently as Western region managing partner for Tax. In her time as the regional managing partner - a role she assumed in July 2010 - she led the region to significant business growth in Tax. As the lead tax partner on several multinational Fortune 500 companies, Newinski led and coordinated multidisciplinary teams across the country and globally. She is a member and past president of the Professional Accounting Council at the University of Iowa, from which she earned a Bachelor of Administration. Newinski also holds a Masters in Taxation from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management.
Benjamin Lynch has joined KPMG LLP as a principal in the International Executive Services practice. Based in Seattle, he will focus on assisting clients in the West with tax and other global mobility issues facing their expatriate employees.
Lynch has more than twenty years of experience in the global mobility, compensation and benefits, and other tax and HR-related areas. He joins KPMG from Mercer, a global human resource and related financial services consulting firm, where he headed local and regional teams across Latin America responsible for assisting clients with their compensation and benefits and employee mobility needs. Prior to that, he held various HR-related positions with PepsiCo, Inc., including vice president of compensation and benefits for Frito-Lay North America. Lynch earned a BA in political science at Rice University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.
Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), one of the Southeast's largest accounting and business consulting firms, has added Amy Jamison, CPA, in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.
Jamison has joined the accounting firm in a senior manager position in the Tax Division. She will be working with businesses and individuals, primarily in the real estate industry, providing tax planning and compliance services. Originally from Lewisburg, Tennessee, Amy earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Middle Tennessee State University.
LBMC Strategic Staffing, LLC, a member of the LBMC (Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC) Family of Companies, is proud to announce that due to high market demand it has added Information Technology (IT) Staffing to its services portfolio.
With the decision to add this new discipline, LBMC Strategic Staffing President Sherrie Whatton hired new hire IT recruitment specialist Chad Pankake. Whatton and Pankake are currently evaluating additional talent to expand the dedicated IT placement team with both contract/temporary and direct-hire experience. Nexia International, the network of independent accounting and consulting firms, has enhanced its presence in the Americas with the addition of new Mexican member firm Vega Prieto. The addition of Vega Prieto increases the number of Nexia International member firms in Mexico to four across ten cities.
Vega Prieto has nearly seventy professionals, including three partners, operating from its offices in CuliacÃ¡n and Los Mochis in Sinaloa. The firm provides accounting, tax, and consulting services to public and private companies, including family-owned businesses, across a range of industries. It has a particular focus on entrepreneurial, government, and educational sectors. Vega Prieto's fee income was US $1.35 million for the last financial year.
RubinBrown added Darin James, CPA, as a partner in the firm's Tax Consulting Group. Greg Osborn, CPA, managing partner of the Denver office, made the announcement.
James has nearly two decades of experience in the accounting industry, previously serving as a partner for Deloitte. He specializes in serving corporate tax clients that have significant global operations with the management of a variety of domestic and international tax issues. Also, James is a recognized resource in the Denver marketplace for technical issues related to ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia.
