In order to take advantage of the latest methods for sharing information, the Forensics & Valuation Services division of BKD, LLP has created a new multimedia website dedicated to the latest advances in forensics. works to help users stay up to date with information on fraud schemes and trends, financial investigations, litigation support, and computer forensics. Visitors can browse informative articles, engage in dialogue by posting comments or questions and conveniently track updates through Twitter or RSS feeds. The site also will include an array of podcasts, videos, and webinars.

"With decades of experience in investigating fraud schemes, we hope this site will provide additional value to those who are fighting fraud on a daily basis in organizations around the country", said Jim Snyder, managing partner of the Forensics & Valuation Services division. 


Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of two prominent tax controversy and litigation partners to the firm's Tax Group in Washington, DC. David B. Blair and David J. Fischer bring more than fifty years of combined litigation and trial experience, advising domestic and international clients in the areas of federal tax litigation and controversy, with a specific focus on transfer pricing and international tax issues. The additions expand the tax controversy and litigation capabilities of Crowell & Moring's Tax Group. Blair joins from Miller & Chevalier, and Fischer joins from Cooley LLP.

A former trial attorney for the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice, Blair's experience includes representing Fortune 500 companies in the petroleum, retail, timber, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, government contracting, and chemical industries. He has extensive experience handling tax controversies before IRS Exam, IRS Appeals, the IRS National Office, and representing taxpayers before the Advance Pricing Agreement program and Competent Authority (now the Advance Pricing and Mutual Agreement office).

Blair represents nonprofit organizations and individuals in federal, state, and local tax matters. He is a member of the U.S. Tax Court J. Edgar Murdock Inn of Court. He holds a JD, magna cum laude, from Cornell University and a BA from Georgetown University.

Focusing his national practice on tax controversy work, Fischer represents Fortune 500 companies, publicly traded corporations, and high net-worth individuals in tax matters. With extensive experience handling IRS alternative dispute resolution procedures, Fischer has worked on accelerated appeals and mediation matters before the IRS Appeals office and counseled clients on numerous IRS examinations, including coordinated examination audits, the Fast Track Settlement program, and the Industry Issue Resolution program. 

Fischer has also been an editorial advisor to The Tax Advisor and is a frequent speaker on tax topics. He represents charities before the IRS as part of his pro bono practice. He holds a JD, with honors, from George Washington University and a BA, with high honors, from Michigan State University.


The regional CPA and advisory firm of DeLeon & Stang is pleased to announce Rich Stang, CPA/ABV, PFS, has been selected to participate on AICPA's National CPA Financial Planning Insights Panel. 

"I am excited to share my unique insights into accounting and financial planning in order to increase public awareness of what personal financial specialists do and the importance of our services", said Stang, a founding partner of DeLeon & Stang. 

The exclusive panel will participate in a series of quarterly surveys designed to increase public awareness of CPAs in financial planning. Each panel participant will answer questions about their views on retirement, estate, investment, and other pertinent planning topics. The final survey results will be shared with the media and will highlight the unique perspective of CPA/PFS credential holders. 

Stang's specialties include corporate and individual tax issues, estate planning, investment management, and insurance advisory services for businesses and individuals. In addition, he assists businesses with the development and implementation of accounting systems, budgets, and financial statements. Stang graduated from Frostburg State University with his Bachelor of Business Studies in Accounting. 


Elliott Davis, PLLC is pleased to announce the addition of Julie Driedger as Client Development Director. With more than ten years of business development and account management experience, Driedger will work with Elliott Davis' firm-wide Manufacturing and Distribution practice to drive go-to-market initiatives, develop new client and referral relationships, and create alliances with industry organizations across the Southeast. She is located in Charlotte and will work across the firm's footprint in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia.

She holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Trinity Western University in British Columbia, Canada, and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. 

Elliott Davis also announced the addition of Stacey B. Hollings, CPA, as a tax manager in its Charleston office. Hollings will provide tax planning and compliance services to clients across a variety of industries, focusing on flow-through and multistate entities. She has proficiency in the calculation of research and development credits and has been in the accounting industry for six years.  

Hollings holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master of Science in Accountancy from College of Charleston.

The local CPA and strategic advisory firm of Goldin Peiser & Peiser, LLP (GPP) is pleased to announce that Julie Venegas, CPA, has been appointed to the Planning Committee for the TSCPA's 2012 Texas State Taxation Conference. The conference, which is held annually to prepare professionals for changes in state tax law and to gain insight on Texas' biggest tax issues, will be held in Houston, August 13‒14, 2012. 

"I am excited to be able to serve on the board of such an important organization", says Venegas. "It's our job as CPAs to stay up-to-date on the changing tax laws, which is why this conference is so beneficial."

As the firm's state and local tax (SALT) expert, Venegas has been planning and preparing tax returns for GPP clients since joining the firm in 2009. She is especially knowledgeable in the areas of Texas franchise taxes and Texas sales and use taxes. Venegas received her Master of Accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas and Bachelor of Management Information Systems from Texas A&M University. 


KPMG LLP, the audit, tax, and advisory firm, has named John Depman, CPA, national leader of Regional and Community Banking within its national Banking and Capital Markets practice. Depman is based in Philadelphia. He began his career with KPMG in 1989 and was elected to the firm's partnership in 2001. 

In this role, Depman will lead a network of partners and professionals who specialize in serving regional and community banks across the United States. He also will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of this important segment of the Banking and Capital Markets practice, while serving as a member of its leadership team.

In addition to serving as the national leader of Regional and Community Banking, Depman is partner-in-charge of the firm's Philadelphia and Mid-Atlantic Banking practices. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Pennsylvania State. 


Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain (LBMC) has added Dana Thompson as an accounting specialist to the company's internal accounting department in the Brentwood (Nashville) office. 

Thompson was previously an accounting assistant with Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee. She brings six years of accounting field experience, having worked with accounts payable and a number of vendors as well as supporting businesses for her previous not-for-profit employer. Thompson is currently a student at Belmont University. 

LBMC has also announced that Dr. M. David Haddock, Jr., director of training, was recently elected chair of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) board. 

As chair, Haddock will serve on the TSCPA Board of Directors and Council, which is the governing body of the association and establishes policy for all society activities. He will also concurrently serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of TSCPA's Educational & Memorial Foundation, which provides comprehensive continuing education for CPAs and awards academic scholarships to deserving accounting students attending Tennessee's colleges and universities. 

Haddock is a graduate of University of Tennessee, Knoxville (BS and MS) and holds a Doctor of Education Degree from Auburn University. 


Leone, McDonnell & Roberts, Professional Association is pleased to announce that Evan Stowell, CPA, has been named partner as of July 1, 2012. In addition, he has recently been elected to the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants' (NHSCPA) Board of Directors for a three-year term. 

Stowell joined the firm in 2002. As partner, he specializes in audit engagements for a variety of clients, including manufacturers, not-for-profit organizations, and employee benefit plans. In addition, he provides a variety of taxation and accounting services to individuals and businesses, ranging from closely-held entities to consolidated multistate companies. 

Stowell graduated with honors from Southern New Hampshire University with a bachelor's degree in 2002. 


The local public accounting and advisory firm of Louis T. Roth & Co. is pleased to announce the addition of Ronald Mihaley, CPA, to its professional staff. 

In his role as a senior accountant, Mihaley will provide corporate, partnership, individual, and fiduciary income tax returns for federal, state, and local filing purposes. He also will assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements for the firm's clients. 

Mihaley received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University in 2006. In addition, he graduated with honors from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2004. 


Mayor Emanuel announced today that McGladrey LLP will move its headquarters to Chicago.

Richey, May & Co., LLP has announced the promotions of three of its employees: Ryan Marczewski, CPA, was promoted to senior tax consultant; Katie Lewis, CPA, to audit supervisor; and Jace Briggs to senior tax associate. 

In his new role as senior tax consultant in the tax department, Marczewski is actively involved in the firm's tax and consulting services. He also has advanced knowledge in mergers and acquisitions, property transactions, and federal and Colorado law. Marczewski attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. 

Lewis joined Richey, May & Co. in 2009. In her new role as audit supervisor, she is responsible for overseeing staff accountants in the audit department. In doing so, she reviews the work of the staff and plans and coordinates audit engagements. She is also responsible for interviewing candidates, training employees, and developing client relationships. Lewis graduated from Cornell College with a Bachelor of Arts in International Business. She also received her Master of Arts in Global Finance from the University of Denver. 

With his promotion, Briggs will take on the role of senior tax associate. He is responsible for mentoring staff in preparation of income tax returns, ensuring accurately and timely review of assigned returns, and identifying issues related to tax returns and potential consulting engagements. Briggs graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in accountancy. He also has a master's degree in taxation from the University of Denver.


Jay Goldberg, CPA, PFS, a trustee of the Parrish Art Museum has been elected as assistant treasurer. Goldberg is the partner-in-charge of the High Net Worth Family Office Group ofRosen Seymour Shapss Martin & Company LLP. He brings over twenty-five years of experience in managing both the personal and business matters of professionals specializing in art galleries and museums, entertainment, financial, medical, real estate, and legal fields as well as other high net worth individuals.

In addition, Goldberg assists clients with financial planning and managing their diverse day-to-day financial and administrative activities. Through a proactive planning process, he works closely with each client to understand his or her specific needs and, accordingly, develops a customized financial plan.

Goldberg received his BBA from Baruch College of the City University of New York. 


This year, Waldron H. Rand & Company, P.C., the oldest ongoing public accounting firm in Massachusetts, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The firm was established in 1912 by accounting pioneer Waldron H. Rand, who was also a founding member and president of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) and president of the predecessor organization to the AICPA. The firm provides accounting, auditing, tax, and business advisory services to individuals and privately held businesses in a wide range of industries throughout the United States and globally.
