New England–based Baker Newman Noyes, one of the nation's top 200 accounting and consulting firms, announced that four new principals have been named: Bill Beauchesne, Dayton Benway, Alan Duhaime, and S. Andrew Smith. All four previously served as senior managers with Baker Newman Noyes.

From the Manchester, New Hampshire office: 

Bill Beauchesne, CPA, MST, of Brentwood, has been named tax principal. Beauchesne, who joined the firm in 2002 after several years at a Big 4 firm in Boston, is a specialist in partnership and LLC taxation. He provides tax services to corporate and individual clients and has built a successful practice within a variety of industries. Beauchesne earned BS degrees in accounting and management information systems from Boston College, and an MS in taxation from Northeastern University. 

Alan Duhaime, CPA, of Chester, has been named audit principal. A veteran from a global Big 4 accounting firm, Duhaime joined the firm in 2006 and has built a practice focused on providing assurance and advisory services to clients in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, high technology, health care, and the not-for-profit sector. Duhaime earned a BS in accounting from St. Michael's College with honors.

From the Portland, Maine office: 

Dayton Benway, of Freeport, has been named principal in the health care management consulting division. Benway joined the firm in 2000 and, since that time, has built a successful practice in Medicare and Medicaid consulting, specializing in hospital and RHC reimbursement. Benway earned a BS in accounting from the University of Southern Maine.

S. Andrew Smith, CPA, of North Yarmouth, has been named tax principal. Smith began his career as a Baker Newman Noyes intern and was hired full-time in 1998. In that time, Smith has built a reputation for assisting clients in the retail, construction, real estate, and professional service industries, and specializes in multistate taxation, corporations and partnerships, and cost segregation studies. In addition, Smith leads many of the firm's college recruiting initiatives. A graduate of the University of Maine (Orono), Smith earned a BS in business administration with concentrations in accounting and finance.


CBIZ Tofias, part of the country's seventh-largest accounting provider, has promoted both Joseph Giso, CPA, MST, and Michelle Spriggs, CPA, MBA, to managing director. Giso, a member of the Not-for-Profit & Education Tax Practice, works out of the Boston office. Spriggs is a member of the Not-for-Profit & Education Audit Practice and works out of both the Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, offices. 

Giso has more than twenty-five years of experience working exclusively with not-for-profit organizations in the education, health and human services, and cultural sectors. He provides tax consulting services that are dedicated to improving the accountability and efficiency of tax-exempt organizations, including counseling on their ongoing compliance with federal, state, local, and various other regulatory agencies. In addition, Giso serves as Chair of the National Not-For-Profit Tax Technical Community, a forum to develop and bring thought leadership to the company's clients. He has been a featured speaker and author for numerous newsletter and journal articles on the topics of tax planning/compliance/consulting and executive compensation. He received his BS degree from Suffolk University and a Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley University.

Spriggs has more than twenty years of audit experience and specializes in serving not-for-profit and higher education organizations. She performs audits; assists with bond offerings; provides recommendations on internal controls, operations, and accounting issues; and assists in board support and development. Spriggs is also a member of the firm's national Professional Standards Group (PSG), where she serves as the technical subject matter expert on not-for-profit organizations and OMB Circular A-133 audits. She received a BS degree from Stonehill College and a Master of Business Administration from Fitchburg State College.


Grant Thornton LLP is expanding its Forensic & Valuation Services (FVS) practice, which offers unique services, including valuation, forensic technology, investigations and disputes, and litigation services.  

Mark Henshaw and Brent Bersin,CPA, CPA, CFF, CLP, both based in Houston, will serve as managing directors in the FVS practice. Henshaw will focus on building Grant Thornton's real estate valuation services offering, while Bersin leads the Houston litigation and disputes practice, concentrating on consulting and expert testimony in disputes and litigation matters. 

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Henshaw was a managing director in the real estate valuation practice for Duff & Phelps. He has twenty-seven years of experience in analyzing and valuing investment grade assets, such as industrial and manufacturing, research and development buildings, office buildings, hotels, malls and shopping centers, apartments, and subdivision developments as well as various special-purpose properties. Being located in Houston, Henshaw also has deep expertise in the valuation of oil and gas industry real estate for properties used upstream, midstream, and downstream. For more than fifteen years, Henshaw has concentrated his practice in real estate valuation for financial reporting purposes. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas A&M University.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Bersin was a director and shareholder of IPFC Corp., a Houston-based consulting boutique. He also was a leader at Navigant and Charles River Associates. For nearly twenty years, he has been providing financial and economic damages quantification consulting and expert witness services to clients. His experience includes market assessments, licensing, and the calculation of lost profits and reasonable royalties. Bersin has assisted attorneys, investors, management and other stakeholders in assessing the value of early-stage technologies, latter-stage technologies, patents, trade secrets, and intellectual property portfolios for various purposes. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Houston.


Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), one of the Southeast's largest accounting and business consulting firms, has added healthcare consultant Kelly Miller, to its Nashville (Brentwood) office. 

Miller has joined the firm as a senior manager within the healthcare consulting division where she will bring her vast revenue-cycle experience in Medicare cost reporting and reimbursement consulting for a variety of healthcare organizations, including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, physician practices, and rural health centers.

A Fellow of the Healthcare the Financial Management Association and a winner of the Nashville Medical News "2012 Class of Women to Watch", Miller comes to LBMC from Kraft Healthcare Consulting where she worked as a manager of advisory services. She obtained her Master of Science in Healthcare Administration and MBA from University of Alabama, Birmingham, and her undergraduate business administration degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.


LBMC has added Kathy L. Tanner in its Knoxville office as a staff member with the accounting services department. Prior to joining LBMC, she was a payroll specialist at Eddy & Eddy CPAs in Johnson City, Tennessee. Originally from Jonesborough, Tennessee, Tanner is enjoying the new opportunity and providing back-office services to small businesses.


Moore Stephens North America (MSNA) announced that SC&H Group (SC&H), the nation's sixty-second largest independent accounting firm, has joined as a member. This gives MSNA fifty-five member firms in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. MSNA is a regional member of Moore Stephens International Limited, which has over 350 firms in 100 countries throughout the world.

RubinBrown recently added Shannon Gilbert, CPA, as a manager in the firm's Tax Services Group and Jason Soodsma, CPA, as manager in the firm's Assurance Services Group. Greg Osborn, CPA, managing partner of the Denver office, made the announcement.

Gilbert currently serves clients in the law and manufacturing and distribution services at RubinBrown. Her areas of specialty include tax consulting, IRS examination matters, tax return preparation and planning, and project management. Gilbert is a graduate of the University of New Mexico.

With over a decade of experience in the accounting industry, Soodsma specializes in audits, reviews, compilations, financial reporting, and taxes for S-corporations, C-corporations, partnerships, and individuals. Aside from being a CPA, he received his Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) certification in 2011. Soodsma received his bachelor's degree from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. 


James Grimes, CIA, CFE, and Deborah Hood recently joinedRubinBrown. Grimes serves as a manager in the firm's Business Advisory Services Group, and Hood serves as a manager in the firm's Tax Services Group. John Herber, CPA, managing partner, made the announcement.

Grimes provides internal audit and accounting controls, risk-based audit planning, Sarbanes Oxley consulting, and forensic and fraud investigation services for clients in the manufacturing and distribution industry. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri - St. Louis and his Master of Business Administration from Fontbonne University.

Hood specializes in property and state and local taxes. She is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
