The local certified public accounting firm of Abeles and Hoffman, P.C. is pleased to announce Kelley Wingbermuehle has been promoted to manager.

Wingbermuehle joined the Abeles and Hoffman team in 2009. As a manager, she assists with C-corporation, S-corporation, partnership, trust, and individual tax returns. Wingbermuehle also reviews bookkeeping engagements and prepares client compilations. She assists clients in numerous industries, with her main focus on the distribution, manufacturing, and personal services industries.

Wingbermuehle received her Master of Accounting in 2004 and Bachelor of Science in accounting in 2003 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In 2003, she received the FSA Outstanding Academic Achievement Award. 


Baker Tilly is pleased to announce Charlie Judy has joined the firm as its chief human resources officer. Judy will provide strategic direction and operational leadership to the firm's human resource function. He is responsible for managing all aspects of human resources operations, while delivering talent management practices that support a meaningful and lasting career experience for Baker Tilly's partners, principals, and employees.


BDO USA, LLP announced that Christopher Smith, the firm's professional practice leader for audit and accounting, has been named to the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The ASB is the AICPA's senior committee for auditing, attestation, and quality control applicable to the performance and issuance of audit and attestation reports for non-issuers.

With more than twenty-seven years of public accounting experience, Smith has overall responsibility for the technical and administrative practices of BDO's National Assurance group. He is actively involved in developing and reviewing BDO's external responses to standard setting and regulatory proposals as well as representing BDO through various professional committees and working groups.

Smith received his MBA in management at the University of San Francisco and his BS in accounting at Montana State University. He is an instructor for BDO's internal and external technical programs, a frequent lecturer for various professional organizations, and has authored several courses on a broad range of technical matters.


Ted Dickman, BKD, LLP, CEO announced Tim Wilson as the new national industry partner (NIP) for BKD National Construction & Real Estate (C&RE) Group. He replaces Jerry Henderson, who was recently named NIP for BKD National Manufacturing & Distribution Group.

Wilson leads approximately 160 professionals who serve more than 2,600 clients in the construction, real estate, architecture, and engineering industries. He most recently served as regional industry leader for BKD's North Region, which encompasses Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado. Wilson has more than twenty-five years of experience performing audit, accounting, tax, and management consulting services in various industries.

NIPs are prominent advisors who serve as the public face of BKD's national industry groups. They are thought leaders who display deep understanding of economic and regulatory trends within their respective fields. They also act as the driving force behind business development efforts and as advocates for industry professionals on the front lines.


Ted Dickman, BKD, LLP chief executive officer, announces Jerry Henderson as the new national industry partner (NIP) for BKD National Manufacturing & Distribution (M&D) Group. He replaces the late Ed Crumm, who passed away in June.

Henderson now leads BKD's second-largest industry group with approximately 200 professionals serving more than 2,200 clients in the manufacturing, distribution, transportation, logistics, and wholesale industries. He most recently served as NIP for BKD National Construction & Real Estate Group.

Henderson's more than twenty years of experience include commenting on proposed Financial Accounting Standards Board pronouncements and assisting clients with the implementation of newly issued pronouncements as well as providing consulting services in the areas of strategic planning, succession planning, financing assistance, profit enhancement, risk management, cost controls, overhead allocation, and performance improvement planning. He frequently writes articles appearing in national trade journals and is a well-respected speaker at regional and national conferences. Based in BKD's Louisville, Kentucky, office, Henderson chairs the firm-wide M&D Committee and also serves on the Governing Board, which establishes firm policy and strategic initiatives.


CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA), ranked as one of the nation's top ten certified public accounting and consulting firms, announced Carl George, CPA, is retiring from the firm following forty-two years of distinguished service, including sixteen years as CEO.

George joined the Danville, Illinois, office of Clifton Gunderson in 1971, was named partner in 1976, and was partner in charge of the Danville office until 1980, when he became chief operating officer of the firm. He was promoted to CEO in 1993, and served in that role until 2009, when he was succeeded by McMasters. His leadership skills were critical as the firm expanded and undertook a series of acquisitions beginning in 1965. In 2011, George worked closely with McMasters and CLA CEO Gordy Viere (then CEO of LarsonAllen) to shape the merger of the two accounting firms that would launch CliftonLarsonAllen on January 1, 2012. George received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Ball State in 1970 and his master's degree in management from Ball State in 1971. 


Elliott Davis, LLC, one of the largest accounting, tax, and consulting services firms in the Southeast, is pleased to announce the addition of Joseph Pennington, CPA, as an assurance senior manager in its Richmond, Virginia, office. 

With more than twelve years of banking experience, Pennington will provide accounting and assurance services to clients in the financial services sector. He has held an array of positions within publicly traded community banks, including controller of a $1.3 billion bank and, most recently, chief financial officer and corporate secretary of a regional bank and its holding company. Pennington was also an internal auditor for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Pennington holds a BS in accounting from West Virginia University. 


James Moore, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants is pleased to announce John Arnold, Wade Durham, and Ryan McIntosh have earned the designation of certified public accountant. 

Arnold, a senior accountant, joined the firm in September 2009. He received a BS in accounting and biochemistry from Florida State University. Durham, a staff accountant, joined the firm in July 2011. He received a Master of Accountancy from Stetson University and a BS from the University of Florida. McIntosh, an associate accountant, joined the firm in January 2011 as a staff accountant. He received a Master of Accountancy from Stetson University and a BS in business administration from the University of Central Florida. 


Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), one of the Southeast's largest accounting and business consulting firms, has added Matt Denney, CPA, in its Brentwood (Nashville) office. 

Denney has joined the firm as manager in the tax services division where he will be working in a variety of industries serving individuals as well as large multinational corporations. He comes to LBMC from Deloitte where he served in the business tax services division for seven years. Originally from Hendersonville, Tennessee, Denney is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he received his Master of Accountancy with a tax focus.  


LBMC announced the selection of Greg Gilbert, CPA, as chairman of the Board of Trustee's Political Action Committee (PAC) for the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA). The TSCPA is the premiere professional association for more than 9,000 CPAs residing and practicing in Tennessee, encompassing all areas of public practice, government, education, business, and industry.

Gilbert, who is LBMC's managing partner in the Knoxville office, has volunteered his time in various capacities over the years for the TSCPA, including seven years on the board of directors and as a past president. In his new role, he will be leading the PAC to help establish the accounting profession as a concerned, involved political constituency. 

Gilbert has diversified experience in a variety of industries, including physician practices, law firms and other professional services, automobile dealerships, construction, manufacturing, and not-for-profit organizations. He provides estate, corporate, limited liability entity, and individual tax planning services. Gilbert is a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.


LBMC Technologies, LLC, full-service technology firm and a member of the LBMC (Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC) Family of Companies, is pleased to announce the recent addition of Donovan Sargent to its Brentwood (Nashville) office.                              

Donovan joins the firm as a network system engineer with a specialty in small business and enterprise technology. He comes to LBMC with over fifteen years of experience in design, implementation, administration, and management of information systems. Originally from College Grove, Tennessee, Donovan is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he earned his undergraduate in business administration.


The local CPA and business advisory firm of Maner Costerisan is pleased to announce Jeffrey L. Staley, CPA, as a new principal effective January 1, 2013. He joined Maner Costerisan in 2000 as a staff accountant and most recently served as a senior manager in the audit department. 

As principal, Staley will focus on providing audit and consulting services to governmental entities, including townships and school districts, as well as construction companies and trade associations. He is the director of Quality Control for Maner Costerisan as well as a member of the firm's Education Niche Committee and a mentor to all staff members in the audit department.


Beth M. Wiener, partner in charge of the national Alternative Investment Group at Marcum LLP, has joined the global Board of Directors of Hedge Funds Care. Hedge Funds Care is an international charity dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

Marcum has been a sponsor of Hedge Funds Care for more than a decade. Firm partners in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, and San Francisco support the organization through fundraising and events. Since 1998, Hedge Funds Care has awarded over $32 million in 900 grants globally.

Based in Marcum's Melville, New York, office, Wiener oversees the firm's hedge fund and private investment partnership practice. She is a member of the firm's Management Committee and has been a board member on the firm's Women's Leadership Development Committee. She is an active member of 100 Women in Hedge Funds and also serves on the Investment Companies Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).

At its recent annual meeting, members of the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy elected officers for 2013. 

Cynthia Campbell, vice president of Financial Empowerment for Tinker Federal Credit Union (TFCU), will serve as president. Angela Caddell, director for Communications, Financial Education and Outreach for Oklahoma College Assistance Program (OCAP), is vice chair (president elect). Melissa Neal, outreach coordinator for OCAP, is secretary. Jo Ann Murray, Invest Ed® project director for University of Oklahoma Outreach, is treasurer.

The Coalition also installed the following professionals as committee chairpersons: Laurie Burt, operations manager for the Oklahoma Council on Economic Education will be the board governance chair and Inger Giuffrida, an independent financial educator and asset building consultant, is the education chair. Denise Lant, director of the Financial Planning Association of Tulsa will serve as policy chair, and Amy Welch, APR, director of communications for the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants, is communications chair.

Pannell Kerr Forster of Texas, P.C. (PKF Texas) has expanded its capabilities using a proprietary claims process model to provide consulting services to businesses looking to file economic loss claims as part of a class action suit, such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

PKF Texas is pleased to announce Brian Baumler, CPA, Director, Audit; Scott Soles, CPA, Director, Audit; and Gary Voth, CPA, Director, Tax, have been named to the 2012 Who's Who in Energy list published by the Houston Business Journal. Baumler and Voth were named to the inaugural list in 2011 and this is Soles' first year to make the list. 

Baumler leads the PKF Texas energy team. With experience on both sides of the desk as an auditor and the former corporate controller of a mid-cap oil and gas company, he understands the complexities of the industry. These skills not only translate well for PKF Texas clients, but to his position as the cochair of the Energy Committee for the Houston Society of CPAs.

Soles augments the PKF Texas energy team from the risk consulting, internal control, and process engineering perspective. He has spent his entire career working with international energy companies on a variety of projects around the globe.

Voth, throughout his twenty-five-year accounting career, has worked with clients ranging from individual "Wildcatters" to multinational oil and gas companies. His depth of knowledge has led to numerous interviews and speaking engagements, most recently moderating a panel of financial executives at the Total Energy Conference.

Rosen Seymour Shapss Martin & Company LLP (RSSM), Certified Public Accountants and Profitability Consultants, announces Victoria L. Pitkin, CPA, has joined the firm as a principal. 

Pitkin has over twenty years of experience in providing accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services for a variety of organizations, including apparel and textile, manufacturing and distribution, service providers, and real estate. As a member of the firm's Quality Control department, she is responsible for pre-issuance reviews of financial statements as well as consulting on accounting and attestation issues and disseminating information to the firm relating to current attestation developments. Pitkin is also very active in developing and delivering quality continuing educational programs to RSSM's professional staff on a variety of topics, from audit efficiency to risk-based auditing, and spearheads the RSSM's engagement efficiency initiative. 

Pitkin is a CPA of New York and New Jersey. She received her BS in accounting from Lehigh University and her BA in history from Bryn Mawr College. 


Kimberly J. Wines, SPHR, AAAPM, firm administrator/director of HR with Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC based in Hagerstown, Maryland, has been awarded the Association-Certified Accredited Administrator in Accounting Practice Management (AAAPM) by the Association for Accounting Administration (AAA). This prominent designation recognizes Wines' knowledge and professional experience in accounting practice management.

Wines joined Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC in December 1989 in the role of firm administrator and is located in the Hagerstown location. During her tenure with the firm, she has become recognized as a senior professional in the field of human resources and currently serves as the firm's director of HR. Her background includes more than twenty-five years of experience working in employee relations, recruitment and retention, benefits, training, employee development, policies and procedures, and organizational effectiveness. 


Shelly L. Rager recently earned the QuickBooks ProAdvisor and the QuickBooks Online certifications from Intuit's Certified ProAdvisor program. The QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification is awarded by Intuit to accounting professional who have a solid understanding of accounting principles and who have a fundamental knowledge of QuickBooks software. Certification is granted upon successful completion of a Certification Exam. The QuickBooks Online Certification is granted on passing the QuickBooks Online Certification exam.

Shelly joined Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC's Hanover office in February of 2010 as a support accountant. She provides accounting and bookkeeping services for local businesses in various industries.


The Pennsylvania State Board of Accountancy recently advised Kevin Stouffer of Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC that he has successfully completed the requirements to be licensed as a certified public accountant.

Stouffer graduated from Shippensburg University with a BS in business administration. He joined the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, office in 2004. His primary responsibilities include providing auditing services to the firm's governmental clients.


The local accounting firm of StarkSchenkein, LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Heidi E. Rosellen, Rosy A. McDonough, and David W. Haller, CPA, to its professional staff.

A 2008 graduate of State University of New York at Brockport with a bachelor's degree in accounting, Rosellen joins StarkSchenkein as a staff auditor. With several years of experience under her belt, her main priority will be to assist in the completion of audit and review engagements. 

McDonough is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Denver with an MBA in finance and international business. Her initial responsibility will be to assist in performing audit procedures where necessary. 

Haller joins our firm as a senior auditor and is a 2008 graduate of Colorado State University with a Master of Accountancy. He is a member of the AICPA and the Colorado State Society of CPAs and will focus his efforts on planning, executing and completing assurance engagements. 


The local public accounting and business advisory firm of Vrakas/Blum, S.C. is pleased to announce that Ryan A. Sneed, CPA, has joined the firm as a staff accountant in the audit department.

Sneed will assist with audit, review, and compilation procedures. He is a 2010 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Master of Accountancy and is a member of the Illinois Society of CPAs.


Kelli L. Miller has been named principal at CPA firm Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra. Miller joined the firm in January 2008 as a senior manager after serving several years at a national firm. She holds BS in accounting from Mount Union College. Her experience includes audit, accounting, and consulting for a variety of clients, with an emphasis on nonprofit organizations and employee benefit plans.
