2012 SCACPA 'Women to Watch Award' Winners

Cosponsored by the Women's Initiatives Executive Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the South Carolina Association of CPAs (SCACPA), the "Women to Watch Award" highlights the accomplishments of women in the CPA profession.

Following are the 2012 award winners: 

Emerging Leader: Brittany B. Owen, CPA 

Owen has more than six years of public accounting experience with Elliott Davis and currently serves as tax manager. In addition to SCACPA, she is a member of the AICPA, the American Society of Women Accountants, and the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Owen also serves as chair-elect of the United Way Young Leaders Society, board treasurer of the Lexington Young Professionals, board treasurer of Lexington Festivals, board member of the Lexington YMCA, chair of the Lexington YMCA Vision and Innovation Committee, member of the Lexington Business Network, and member of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. Owen received her Master of Accountancy and Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Carolina.

Experienced Leader: Anne P. Harty, CPA

Harty serves as chief financial officer/municipal clerk for the City of Rock Hill and also serves on the city's budget committee. A member of AICPA and SCACPA, she previously served on the SCACPA Board of Directors and as an officer with the Catawba Chapter. She currently serves as a member of SCACPA's Financial Literacy Task Force; the SC Government Finance Officers; the National Government Finance Officers Association standing committee on Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting; and the Board of Historic Rock Hill.  Harty is a newly elected officer of the National Government Finance Officers Association Women's Public Finance Network.  A South Carolina Certified Government Finance Officer, Harty received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Winthrop University and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Advanced Government Finance Institute.

Experienced Leader: Debra A. Turner, CPA

Turner has practiced in public accounting in Charleston for thirty years. Currently, she is the managing partner of WebsterRogers, LLP, and is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations for the firm's eight offices as well as long-term strategic direction. She is a designated Personal Financial Specialist. A member of the SCACPA since 1980, Turner is a member of the Coastal Chapter and a past president of the SCACPA Board of Directors.  She is a member of the AICPA and served as the state designated member from 1996-1998. She has also served as a member and chairman of the South Carolina Board of Accountancy and a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). Turner currently serves on the Center for Women Board of Directors, the Zonta Club/Zonta Foundation of Charleston, Inc., and is a past member of the Coastal Community Foundation's Development Committee. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.

The recipients were recognized at the Women in Leadership Conference October 18 at Embassy Suites in Columbia, South Carolina.
