On May 24, Avalara announced that its geolocation sales tax engine is now part of Intuit's GoPayment mobile payment application, which turns the most popular mobile devices into a mobile cash register.
Using Avalara's technology, GoPayment helps small businesses get paid confidently, wherever they are, by accurately calculating taxes based on the precise location of a sale, taking into account the city, state, and municipal tax codes as well as special tax districts.
Setup is seamless, and once enabled, all sales and resulting taxes initiated from GoPayment are reported and recorded based on the latitude and longitude coordinates of the sale. This unmatched level of accuracy gives businesses many advantages, including greater risk mitigation in the event of an audit, and reduced customer service issues related to incorrect tax rates.
"Avalara eases the burden of statutory sales tax requirements by providing a fast, easy way to manage indirect taxes that is as accurate and affordable for small and mid-size businesses as it is for large corporations," said Scott McFarlane, Avalara founder and CEO. "GoPayment users are now able to spend time on what matters most – delighting their customers and growing the business."
Additionally, merchants can access their sales tax information in a downloadable report. They simply log into the online Intuit Merchant Service Center, select the appropriate state, purchase the reporting subscription, and download a report that provides all sales taxes for the given period of time.
The geolocation sales tax feature is now available for GoPayment for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch as well as GoPayment for Android devices. More information is available at GoPayment.com.
