Oakbrook, IL-based Crowe Horwath LLP has announced that its summer interns collected more than 3,500 books, toys and shoes to benefit charitable organizations across 15 communities in eight states. Crowe Horwath, one of the largest public accounting and consulting firms in the U.S., considers community involvement a key component of leadership development and incorporates that into its Success-Opportunities-Accomplishments-Results (SOAR) internship program.
"Community involvement can enhance professional growth and leadership skills, that is why we feel it is important to have Crowe interns get involved in the local community at the beginning of their careers", said Karen Thompson, Crowe's assistant director, university recruiting. "Crowe's established relationships with community organizations and our focus on youth development gave interns across the firm an opportunity to work toward a common goal."
In addition to the collections, the interns were asked to spend a minimum of 2 hours reading to children in their communities, resulting in more than 175 hours of donated reading time.
