Following is the latest roundup of firm news for the week of November 29, 2010.

BDO has announced the admission of new member firms in Belarus and Algeria, effective immediately. Founded in 1997, BDO Belarus was formerly part of the KPMG network and is the largest accounting firm in Belarus by size of fees and number of staff. Based in Minsk, the firm employs some 65 partners and staff. BDO Algeria, based in Algiers, was founded under the name ORFICO in 1969. The firm, which has 20 staff and three partners, has experienced significant growth over the last several years.

Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, L.L.P. (CB&H) has raised $1,650 for Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina, a worldwide organization dedicated to educating students on entrepreneurship, the modern workplace, and financial management. The firm raised the money during the Junior Achievement of Eastern NC's annual Bowl-A-Thon on Nov. 5. The firm also announced the addition of Gregory T. Bryant as a domestic and international tax partner with the firm. Bryant is a CPA and an attorney with more than 25 years of experience in federal and international tax. Also, Sheila Ahler, business development partner at the firm, will serve on the 2010 Women on Board steering committee in support of the NC Center for Women in Public Service, a nonpartisan organization that prepares women for elected and appointed offices statewide. Ahler also was appointed to the 2010/2011 Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, and will serve as the chair of the Membership Services Committee.

Gettry Marcus Stern & Lehrer, CPA, P.C. (GMSL) recently announced that Benjamin Greenbaum, CPA, CFP, PFS, has joined the firm as a partner. Greenbaum has more than 23 years of experience and provides accounting, auditing, tax, and advisory services to closely held and family-owned businesses in a broad array of industries.

Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC) recently announced the addition of Joshua "Clay" Morris, CPA, to its Brentwood (Nashville), Tennessee office. Morris has joined the accounting firm in a senior position in the accounting and assurance services department. Rachel Zizka, CPA, has joined the accounting firm's Knoxville office in a senior manager position in the accounting and assurance services department. Ashley Kilmon has joined the accounting firm's Brentwood office in a staff position in the audit department. Missy Archer, CPC, has joined the LBMC Healthcare Consulting team in Brentwood as a senior consultant.

Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLP (MBAF) recently announced that David Barbeito has earned the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) designation by the Exit Planning Institute. Barbeito joins an exclusive group of less than 135 business advisors worldwide who have received this title. The CEPA program offers comprehensive specialized training in the area of exit planning and was constructed for advisors who work directly with owners of privately-held companies.

W. M. "Mack" Lawhon, CPA, chair of Weaver, recently was appointed to the Financial Accounting Foundation's Board of Trustees for a five-year term that begins in January 2011. The Financial Accounting Foundation is the independent, private-sector organization responsible for the oversight of the accounting standard-setting boards: the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, and their advisory councils.
