UBmatrix, a leading provider of software and services leveraging the global XBRL standard, announced that UBmatrix Director of Industry Solutions - Financial Reporting, Charlie Hoffman, has been presented with the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants' (AICPA) Special Recognition Award. He is honored for his role as a pioneer in the development of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL).

Hoffman is commonly credited with being the "Father of XBRL" and is a member of the AICPA and the author of "XBRL Essentials", a non-technical guide to the use of XBRL in financial reporting.

"Charlie has lived and breathed XBRL since the late 1990s and truly deserves this recognition. The endorsement the AICPA award represents is noteworthy, both in terms of Charlie's efforts and to XBRL as a game-changing technology." said Sunir Kapoor, UBmatrix President and CEO. "The accounting profession - indeed business reporting in general - will never be the same."

In accepting the award, Mr. Hoffman credited the work of many others which was critical to the success of XBRL.

"People call me 'father of XBRL', but I like to refer to myself as the guy who did the obvious. I was in the right place at the right time, with the right set of skills." Many individuals were thanked by name and he also thanked the support received from UBmatrix and investors in the XBRL technology market that made the XBRL commercialization possible.

Mr. Hoffman was also co-editor of the initial XBRL taxonomy and an important contributor to the XBRL 2.1 specification. He continues in a major role in crafting the taxonomy for financial reporting under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS-GP). Hoffman continues forward as a member of the XBRL International Specification and Domain working groups, as co-author of "Financial Reporting Taxonomies Architecture" (FRTA) 1.0 specification and the "Financial Reporting Instance Standards".
