You know that old saying, âHe who has the most toys winsâ? Well, when it comes to IT executive worth, it may not be the one who can buy the most toys, but the one who holds enough stock options to buy the most that wins.
One of the people making [email protected] Online's list of executives is Jeffrey Bezos. As chairman, president and CEO of Amazon.com, Bezos .reports a modest $81,840 salary. However, his holdings in the company are a staggering $6 billion plus.
When you take a look at the packages these executives hold; it's almost hard to believe. However, this is the trend as IT companies scramble to hire the best and make it worth their while. Up to 40 to 50 percent of an executive's pay could come in the form of long-term incentives
And while the trend five years ago was a base pay of 40 percent, that number has dropped to only 25 to 30 percent. Short-term incentives account for another 25%. Some companies have implemented semi-annual salary increases.
