New QuickBooks certification will validate small business accounting skills

Certiport,a provider of performance-based certification exams and practice test solutions, has announced the availability of a new Intuit QuickBooks Certified User (QBCU) certification program, designed by Real World Training, which is endorsed by Intuit.
Certiport will deliver the QuickBooks Certified User exam in its academic testing network to help students prove marketable skills by validating they have the expertise to manage the QuickBooks accounting software for a small business without costly training. The new QuickBooks exam tests proficiency in all recent releases of QuickBooks Pro/Premier software including versions 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Intuit QuickBooks is the leading small business accounting software application in the United States. The QuickBooks share of retail units sold in the business accounting category was 93 percent for the six-month period ending January 31, 2011, according to the NPD Group.
Real World Training, the official QuickBooks training provider endorsed by Intuit, designed the QuickBooks exam to measures students' bookkeeping skills, including how to create purchase orders, track sales and expenses, produce and manage invoices, and monitor financial records.
"Employers seek individuals who have demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks," said Greg Wright, director of product management for Intuit's Finance Management Services division. "Having the Intuit QuickBooks Certified User accreditation will help students stand out among job applicants."

"Since the Certified QuickBooks User accreditation is designed for end users, it's an excellent way for experienced bookkeepers and accountants - as well as students - to demonstrate their QuickBooks skills to prospective employers" said Laura Messerschmitt, senior product manager at Intuit.

The Certified QuickBooks User examination is the first that Intuit has provided to end users, adding to its line of accreditations aimed at accounting and consulting professionals, including the Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and the Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

Ian Vacin, group marketing manager in the Accounting Professionals Division, added "The Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor accreditation, which requires a high degree of accounting, business and QuickBooks proficiency, is aimed at professionals who perform QuickBooks accounting, bookkeeping, and consulting services to third-party companies."

Many secondary school career technical education (CTE) programs, community colleges, and vocational schools teach QuickBooks as part of a business accounting and bookkeeping education, according to a statement released by Certiport.
Certiport states that, for students, the QuickBooks certification program has the potential of validating newly acquired QuickBooks skills for entry-level positions in professional accountancy. The certification can help to position students as credible job candidates who have the relevant computing skills for QuickBooks bookkeeping tasks.
"A recent Certiport survey of accounting instructors at two-year colleges revealed that 84 percent believes students who are preparing for an accounting career should be conversant in QuickBooks," said Ray Kelly, Chief Executive Officer, Certiport. "We are excited to offer the QuickBooks exam as a way to validate a strong competency of QuickBooks. The certification will be a resume-builder for students and an excellent tool to increase the value of academic accounting and bookkeeping programs."
By partnering with Certiport, schools become Certiport Authorized Testing Centers and can provide QuickBooks certification exams in their classrooms, enabling them to certify business accounting software skills with this new certification.
Certiport Authorized Testing Centers have access to practice tests, certification exams, and other resources they need to ensure students are prepared to take exams and successfully earn certifications. Classroom license options allow schools to conduct high volume, online testing for an annual fee that can eliminate per-test costs. Secondary and post-secondary schools can sign up to become Certiport Authorized Testing Centers at
