Chat the Friendly Skies

Companies such at Virgin Atlantic Airways and Boeing have been working diligently to create a flying experience that will allow passengers to conduct business as usual. Since having access to the Internet and a phone is such a huge part of doing business, mobile communication is their main focus.

Virgin Atlantic Airways is positioning itself to be the first airline to allow passengers to receive phone calls in-flight on their own personal mobile phones. Fortunately, if you are a passenger who is on vacation and could care less about receiving calls, you won’t be disturbed by the sound of ringing phones. A passenger is alerted to incoming calls via the ringing in their entertainment headphones, or a flashing message on video monitors located at each passenger’s seat.

Boeing is working toward bringing real time broadband Internet access into flights, which could allow passengers to instant message people on the ground or surf the Web. While costs hasn’t been figured out yet, these companies are already saying they plan on offering pricing that’s within the realm of feasible in an effort to encourage use.
