New Software Tracks E-Filed Returns

Electronic filing of tax returns is not without its shortcomings, but each tax season the technology seems to get better.

This time of year software companies are releasing their upgraded e-filing programs with new features and conveniences. One of those is a tracking feature offered by CHH in the newest version of its ProSystem fx Tax.

The new addition to the e-filing software is the tracking feature, Electronic Filing Status System, which enables the user to track the status of state and federal returns, according to CHH. The company introduced the feature and the latest version of ProSystem fx Tax at its users conference in Boca Raton, Fla., this week.

The company says that users can view and check the status of all their electronically filed returns. If, for example, more information is required, PDFs can be attached to the return. The user can release returns to taxing authorities, or stop processing of a return in the early stages.

Diagnostic and support tips on the Electronic Filing Status System translate any Rejection codes are translated into straightforward how-to-fix-it suggestions by the diagnostic and support tips built into the program.

Users can view separate statuses for federal and multiple-state e-filings, customize their views by return status, preparer and other criteria and easily export all views to Excel, the company says.

The new tracking system also provides information about the e-filing requirements of each state. Users also have access to instruction guides to filing electronically, on preparing 1120 and 1120S consolidated returns for e-filing and on attaching PDF files to returns.

The program gives the user access to up-to-the-minute actual or projected release dates, by product, for each federal and state form. ProSystem fx Tax program is made available to ensure that users are as current as the IRS in e-filing compliance.

“ProSystem fx Tax will e-file over 4 million returns this year, and our acceptance rate is the highest of any software vendor,” said Jo Ann Cummings, CCH product manager.
