Introducing AccountingWEB's Tax Zone
In an effort to bring a variety of tax resources to our readers, AccountingWEB is pleased to introduce our Tax Zone, an area of our Web site dedicated to tax news, tips, and resources. Look around, tell us what you think. Send your requests and watch this site grow. Here is a roadmap of what you'll find in our new Tax Zone.
This area of the Tax Zone summarizes the current tax news stories that are important to you and your business. Click any title to read the story, click "more" to proceed to additional stories.
Questions and Advice
Click on a title to see the question, read others' comments, or offer your input on a topic. To enter your own question, click Questions and Advice in the leftmost column of any AccountingWEB screen.
Tax Segment Blocks
Click any of the tax segment blocks listed below to go to a page dedicated to that particular type of taxation. On those pages you will find targeted news about that topic and useful links pertaining to the specific tax you have chosen.
The resources section of Tax Zone is designed to help you find the information you need, quickly, so you don't have to take time searching the Internet. Here's how the resources are broken down:
Here you'll find the text and accompanying explanations of the latest tax acts, information and commentary about pending legislation, news from the Tax Court, and links to IRS rulings and pronouncements.
In our Quick Reference section, you'll find the tools you need to have at your fingertips during tax season, including latest standard deduction and personal exemption amounts, personal exemption phase-out levels, Social Security Threshold amounts, and links to the most popular IRS publications arranged by the tax form that calls for them.
On this page of the Tax Zone, we will share with our readers a plethora of sample letters and checklists that can be sent to clients, including engagement letters, letters explaining technical aspects of the tax law, letters about tax planning, and more. In addition, we'll provide checklists to help organize the tax practice as well as organizers and checklists to help your clients. We encourage our readers to submit their letters and checklists and other organization tools so that all AccountingWEB members can benefit.
This section of Tax Zone is devoted to sharing published resources, including the latest useful books on taxation, links to tax software services, and tax-related CPE information. We welcome suggestions and reviews as we build this area.
Since the point of Tax Zone is to make your job easier, we've established this section of the site to provide timesaving tools. With useful calculators and nifty spreadsheets, tax preparers can devote more of their valuable time to servicing clients. Once again, we welcome your suggestions and submissions for this growing area of the site.
Voice of the Editor
Which isn’t completely true. I mean, occasionally I drop by when I manage to sneak out of the nonstop frat party over at Going Concern, but I’m mostly a wallflower over there. I’m happy to say that I’ve been given express permission (or explicit orders, if you like) to wander over here to AccountingWEB more often.
Why is that, you might ask? My job is to replace the irreplaceable Gail Perry as Editor-in-Chief. What does that mean? I don’t really know! I think it’ll be fun getting a feel for things, throwing in my own thoughts here and there, and listening to the discussions you’re having about the accounting profession.
