  1. Study Shows Companies Underestimate Cost of Leaves of Absence

While nearly all larger companies (96 percent) have formal documented leave of absence (LOA) policies, fewer than two in 10 calculate costs associated with them and only one-third track leave utilization, according to a recent study.

  1. Bill Would Expand Small Business Tax Break

Small businesses would receive a boost from legislation passed last week by the U.S. House that would save small businesses $10.9 billion in taxes from 2006 through 2008. It is not clear how much support the measure as in the Senate.

  1. Treasury and the IRS Finalize "Deemed IRA" Rules

The Treasury and IRS finalized regulations regarding "deemed IRAs" in employer-provided retirement plans. "These regulations will enhance the willingness of employers to offer deemed IRAs to employees as well as the interest of service providers in offering these products to employers."
