Quebec Accounting Orders Sign First Partnership Agreement

The Ordre des comptables generaux licencies du Quebec (CGA) and the Ordre des comptables en management accredites du Quebec (CMA) yesterday signed a partnership agreement on professional development. The signing of this agreement, a first between these two accounting orders, illustrates the willingness expressed last year by both groups to continue to dialogue and explore avenues for collaboration after the proposal to unify the accounting profession was abandoned.

This first agreement gives members of both accounting orders enhanced access to professional development programs and cost reciprocity. Various professional development activities are also an integral part of the agreement.

“Professional development is a priority for our Order as for the CMA Order. IT was logical to evaluate ways we could work together and respect our differences. Thanks to this agreement, our respective members across Quebac sill have access to a whole group of leading-edge courses,”Says Ginette Fortin, FCGA, President of the Bureau of the Qubec CGA Order and Director of Wealth Management at the Banque Nationale du Canada, Mauricie/Bois-Francs, Sorel region.

The Ordre des CGA du Quebec represents more than 10,000 members and students. Its core mission is to ensure the protection of the public. In this regard, CGAs are recognized for their personal integrity and professional ethics by rigorous professional inspection program for CGAs in private practice. In addition, the CGA Order has a bylaw respecting mandatory professional development for its members. The Order also publishes articles of general interest and addresses various political and social issues.

“The agreement signed today [September 1] will be beneficial for both orders,” explains Michel Verreault, FCMA, President of the Bureau of the Quebec CMA Order and Senior Vice President, Distribution at Desjardins Groupe d’assurances generales. “It will also be beneficial for the public at large and Quebec organizations who intend to do business with professionals with leading-edge skills, exceeding even their own expectations.”

The Ordre des comptables en management accredites du Quebec consists of more than 8,000 certified members and candidates to the profession. CMAs create value within organizations using an integrated and systematic approach to strategic and financial management. In September 2004, the Order was given the Grand Prix Quebecois de la qualite in the category of Service SMEs with fewer than 250 employees. The Grands Prix Quebecois de la qualite, managed jointly by the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade and the Mouvement Quebecois de la qualite are important distinctions presented by the Prmier of Quebec to the top performing private companies and public agencies.
