*** PLATT'S PERSPECTIVE ***

I sat next to a gentleman on a plane the other day who was reading "CFO" Magazine and we struck up a conversation about what we each do. He works for a $200 million company and has been there for over ten years. I asked him what it is about CFOs that's misunderstood that he would like the rest of the world to know about.

"We're not the enemy," was his quick response. "We used to be seen as a part of the team, but ever since Sarbanes-Oxley, we've been looked at in a much more distrusting light." He went on to admit that in the last two years he has exerted as much mental energy as he has in the previous eight years combined.

I share this with you to help remind you of some of the possible personal stresses of some of the people that you encounter daily, and encourage you to check in with all of your clients to find out not only "How are you doing financially," but also "How are you doing" in general.
