*** PLATT'S PERSPECTIVE ***

Attention all tax preparers! We all know that this time of year lends itself to working long hours and wearing that extra burden like a badge of honor - commiserating with colleagues, clients, loved ones, and anyone else that will listen to all of the tales of woe about the demands of busy season.

Well, I've got a suggestion for you. Just stop it. Small business entrepreneur friends of mine shake their head in disbelief and share with me every year that their CPA loves to lament the rigors of tax season. "What she doesn't realize is that we work 75 hours a week EVERY SINGLE WEEK of the year, and don't have the luxury of the heavy load for just three months," they say.

At best the display shows a lack of appreciation for the 24x7x365 heavy demands on your small business owner clients. At worst it demonstrates that you are too busy/stressed/preoccupied to deliver the quality service your clients deserve. So heed my friends' advice: if you're going to wear the badge of honor, at least wear it quietly under your clothing - and not on your sleeve.
