Nebraska CPAs Vote 'No' to Proposed 'XYZ' Credential

Members of the Nebraska Society of CPAs were polled this summer regarding the AICPA's proposed global business credential, and the results are resoundingly negative.

The Nebraska membership received a one-question survey that asked, "Should the Nebraska Society use its resources to support the AICPA's efforts to establish a new global interdisciplinary credential?" Over 25 percent of the membership returned the questionnaire and of those, 94.2% voted "No." In addition, nearly 250 of the 650 members who responded to the survey included written comments.

As a result of the survey, the Board of the Nebraska Society passed the following motion:

"With respect to the AICPA's proposed global interdisciplinary credential, that President Dan Vodvarka be instructed to inform the AICPA and other state societies of the results of the recent Nebraska Society survey concerning this issue and that because of the survey results, the Nebraska Society will not expend any more time or funds on promoting the global interdisciplinary credential, and that the AICPA is urged to direct its available resources to better educating the public about the CPA credential."

Other state CPA societies that have voted against the credential include: llinois, New York, New Jersey, Washington, and Connecticut. The Michigan Society has come out in favor of the credential.
