Kathy Eddy Takes over Helm of AICPA

Kathy G. Eddy was inaugurated this week as Chair of the AICPA's board of directors, replacing Robert K. Elliott. The announcement was made at the Las Vegas meeting of the 350,000 member organization.

Coming from a small firm herself, Kathy Eddy is determined to make the AICPA seem like home to CPAs and firms of all sizes. Eddy called the AICPA "the professional home to every single CPA," and said the letter "A" in the name stands for "All-inclusive."

Eddy takes over the organization at a time of particular turmoil, as the SEC is still considering changing the way auditors can do business, and the organization is reaching for a global identity with its proposed "cognitor" designation.

She feels completely ready to take on the challenges that face her, and speaks of the organization in almost ethereal terms: "Ours is a noble profession. People benefit because this profession exists."
