Michigan CPA named treasurer of Lansing YMCA

James E. Nyquist, CPA, Principal of the Lansing, MI-based CPA and business advisory firm of Maner, Costerisan & Ellis, P.C. (MC&E), was recently named treasurer of the YMCA of Lansing.

"It is an honor to be part of an organization that provides such great support and benefit to the Lansing community," says Nyquist. "I am committed to help carry out the mission of the YMCA of Lansing and will use this opportunity to grow on both a personal and professional level."

As treasurer, Nyquist is responsible for overseeing the YMCA of Lansing's financial records, and its budget. He also reports at board meetings on the financial status of the organization. Founded in 1877, the YMCA of Lansing is a nonprofit charitable organization nurturing the healthy development of children and teens, strengthening families and making the community a healthier, safer and better place to life. The organization offers a wide variety of personal and community programs to people of all faiths, races, abilities, ages, and incomes.

In addition to his role as principal, Nyquist serves as chair of MC&E's closely-held business committee. He works with a broad range of closely-held businesses including franchisors, brokers/dealers, construction contractors, and various other service organizations. Nyquist is also heavily involved with the nonprofit industry and assists trade associations, unions, religious and voluntary health and welfare organizations. He joined MC&E in 1987.

Beyond his service with the YMCA of Lansing, Nyquist is actively involved with a number of other professional and community organizations. His memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), and Michigan Society of Association Executives (MSAE). Nyquist is a resident of Perry, Michigan.
