JOIN YOUR COLLEAGUES TODAY: OPEN FORUM ON SEC HEARINGS

Members of the accounting and financial communities and others are invited to attend an Open Forum, Tuesday September 19, 2000 at 11:00 Eastern Time at the AccountingWEB workshop room, http://www.accountingweb.com/workshop.

Leading the forum will be Gary Shamis, Chairman of the PCPS Management of an Accounting Practice Committee, representing the AICPA. Mr. Shamis, along with other representatives of the accounting profession who have been scheduled to speak at the SEC’s public hearings, expressed dissatisfaction at the small window of time provided to present testimony.

In response to this profession-wide plea for more time and more input, AccountingWEB will provide an opportunity for those who are concerned about the proposed rulings to present their views and participate in a question and answer forum. The transcript of this event will become a permanent part of the AccountingWEB site so that anyone who is unable to attend the forum will be able to read the full transcript at a later time.

If you are interested in presenting a prepared statement or being a member of a panel to field questions about the impact of the SEC proposed guidelines on the accounting profession, or if you have any questions about this event, please contact Gail Perry, Managing Editor, AccountingWEB, at gperry@accountingweb.com.

Voice of the Editor

Even though any accounting auditor would tell you it seems like there are an awful lot of tax accountants out there, surely one-third of the country isn't made up of tax preparers, so it's rather startling news to learn that one-third of Americans like to do their taxes. Who knew?
