INCPAS wins Awards of Excellence

The Indiana CPA Society was recognized for excellence by the Indiana Society of Association Executives at the annual STAR Award banquet held Dec. 4 at Oak Hill Mansion in Carmel, IN. The Society received honors in three categories, making INCPAS one of the evening's top winners.

This year's Awards of Excellence recognized the following Society events and programs in the over $500,000 annual budget category:

  • Outstanding Individual Program

  • Outstanding Government Affairs Program

  • Outstanding Professional Development Program

    Greenstein Rogoff Olsen & Co. continues rapid growth

    San Francisco-based Greenstein Rogoff Olsen & Co. (GROCO) is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Danville, CA and the addition of Mary Kay Foss as its newest Director. Ms. Foss has practiced public accounting in the East Bay since 1981 and had offices in the San Ramon Valley since 1990. She will manage the operations of GROCO's new Danville office.

    The full-service CPA firm Greenstein Rogoff Olsen & Co. is consistently ranked as one of the top accounting firms in the San Francisco Bay Area. In business since 1964, GROCO has offices in Fremont, Palo Alto, Danville, and San Francisco, California.

    Deloitte & Touche LLP and Mintz & Partners LLP announce merger

    Big Four firm Deloitte and Toronto-based Mintz & Partners have reached an agreement to join forces. It is expected that the firms will be in business together in January 2008.

    A team of 150 people, including 18 partners, from Mintz & Partners will join Deloitte's Private Company Services practice in Greater Toronto. The merger will enable Deloitte to enhance its service for Toronto's entrepreneurial companies and accelerate its development strategy in this market.

    Massachusetts Society of CPAs wins Interactive Media Award

    The Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA) Web site won 2007 Best In Class for Financial Services from the Interactive Media Awards. The MSCPA and the iMarc creative and development teams worked together to redesign the Web site and improve member service to MSCPA's members. Members can bookmark the Web pages they visit most and personalize their home page and preferences. "The new Web site has provided a more consistent look and feel for the MSCPA, while enabling members to personalize the site to best suit their needs," said Kara Daszkiewics, Communications/Web Specialist. "It's great to receive recognition from such a prestigious organization."

    The MSCPA Web site was also a finalist in the Nonprofit category of the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX) Awards. The other finalists were: Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Solano County (CA) Library, and Farm Aid. The Solano County (CA) Library Web site was the category winner. The MITX Awards is the largest and most prestigious awards competition in the country for interactive and web innovations and celebrates the best creative and technological accomplishments designed out of New England.

    Georgia's largest independent CPA firm makes large acquisition

    Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP, one of the country's top-100 CPA firms, formally announced today the multi-million-dollar acquisition of Atlanta-based Miller Ray Houser & Stewart, LLP, a leading CPA firm in the local market offering a broad range of traditional audit and tax services.

    In addition to a staff of 25 and office space at 99 West Paces Ferry Road, Habif, Arogeti & Wynne (HA&W), already Georgia's largest independent accounting firm, acquires an active client roster of approximately 2000 organizations and executives as well as more depth and breadth of experience with SEC-registered companies. All MRHS staff will eventually transition to the HA&W offices at the Glenridge Highlands location in Atlanta.

    Grant Thornton LLP purchases certain assets of Jenkintown, PA-based GR Consulting, LLC

    Grant Thornton LLP has announced that it has purchased certain assets of the Jenkintown, PA-based GR Consulting, LLC (GRC). A total of three partners and 50 additional professionals joined Grant Thornton LLP on December 1, 2007.

    GRC currently operates on a regional model with most of its activity in the northeastern United States. In addition, it has clients from Boston to Virginia, as well as global clients in Europe and Asia.

    Crowe and Carter, Belcourt & Atkinson combine practices

    Crowe Chizek and Company LLC has announced it has completed its combination of practices with Florida-based Carter, Belcourt & Atkinson, P.A. (CBA). The two firms signed an agreement to combine in October. Crowe Group LLP, parent company of Crowe Chizek, is one of the 10 largest public accounting and consulting firms in the U.S.

    CBA was founded in 1979 and grew to be one of central Florida's largest certified public accounting and consulting firms. CBA brings to Crowe more than 65 professionals working in its Tampa and Lakeland offices. With this combination, Crowe now has Florida offices in Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Lakeland and West Palm Beach with nearly 200 personnel in the state. The two firms now operate under the Crowe name.
