Following is the latest roundup of firm news for the week of September 7, 2010.

Barfield Murphy Shank & Smith (BMSS) recently announced the following promotions within its accounting firm: Promoted to manager were David Brown, Mindy Ellis, and Amy Stapler; promoted to supervisor were Brad Camp, CPA, Amy Ewing, CPA, Alex Holt, CPA, Melanie Shores, CPA, and Stephen Von Hagel, CPA; and promoted to senior accountant were Ashley Caldwell, Marlene Cox, and Lindsey Stryker.

Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP, recently was ranked among the fastest growing private companies in the United States by Inc. Magazine, a magazine for entrepreneurial businesses, in its fourth annual 5,000 Fastest Growing Private Companies report. According to Inc., Citrin Cooperman was the 148th fastest growing firm in the magazine's broad financial services category, which includes accounting firms, brokerages, lending services, and technology firms serving the financial industry.

The Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS) recently announced that is has reached more than 2,000 members with its Professional Issues Updates (PIU). INCPAS President and CEO Gary Bolinger, CAE, began the series of programs August 20, and will present 16 programs in 13 cities across the state by the time it concludes September 28. The 11th annual edition of the PIU provides a wealth of information in a fast-paced four-hour program.

The Young CPAs, a segment of the membership of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. The FoodBank is a member of Feeding America, the nation's largest network of food banks. It works to provide support to more than 1,600 agency programs in the fight against hunger and poverty. The Young CPAs' goal is to collect a minimum of 30 bags of nonperishable items and canned goods. The drive will begin on Monday, September 13, and will conclude on Thursday, November 18.

Vrakas/Blum, S.C., a regional mid-market accounting and consulting firm based in Brookfield, Wisconsin, recently announced the promotions of Christopher K. Balcerzak, CPA; Christina M. Binagi, CPA; and Michael J. Hall, CPA. Balcerzak and Binagi now serve as principals and Hall is a manager.
