Company announcements: Week of October 4

Following is the latest roundup of firm news for the week of October 4, 2010.

Kate Fluker, Meredith Edmonds, and Julie Phillips joined accounting firm Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith as staff accountants. All three previously were interns at the firm.

Calvetti, Ferguson & Wagner, P.C. (CF&W), a Houston-based CPA firm, recently announced the launch of AcctTwo, a strategic new business venture that will provide mid-market companies in Houston with a fully integrated finance and accounting services solution.

Chris Hegarty, a Certified Public Accountant and partner of the accounting, tax, and business consulting firm Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP, in Philadelphia, was awarded the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's MS Leadership Award. Hegarty was recognized for his philanthropic efforts at the organization's MS Leadership Class Awards Reception hosted by honorary chair and former president of the 76ers, Pat Croce.

Atlanta-based accounting firm Moore Colson CPAs, recently announced the winner of the firm's coveted Peak Award. The second quarter 2010 Peak Award winner is Business Assurance Associate Ben Colley. The Peak was presented to Colley by Managing Partner Bob Kiser for his team work and outstanding performance on a very important firm client engagement. The Peak Award is presented on a quarterly basis to an individual who makes a significant contribution to the firm or worked on a project that is considered above and beyond expectations.

Weaver, a regional independent certified public accounting firm in the Southwest, recently announced the appointment of the following partners as industry practice leaders. These appointments demonstrate Weaver's commitment to providing a full range of assurance, tax and advisory services to dedicated industries. John J. Mackel III, CPA, will oversee all of the firm's industry practices. The firm's industry leaders include Financial Services: Kevin A. Sanford, CPA; Manufacturing, Distribution and Retail: Mark D. Walker, CPA; Oil and Gas: Melvin F. "Trey" Hunt, CPA; Public Sector: Jerry L. Gaither, CPA; Real Estate and Construction: Andrew J. Freundlich, CPA; Renewable and Energy Compliance: Wade L. Watson, CPA, CFE; and Technology: Gregory L. Bailes, CPA.
