Accounting recruiter receives chapter's Cecil M. Baugh Award

Mary Ann Markowitz, president of Mary Ann Markowitz & Associates, a Dallas executive recruiting firm for accounting and finance professionals, received the Cecil M. Baugh Award from the Dallas chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants as the past president with the most outstanding service. The award was presented May 15, at the final meeting of the chapter year.

"We present this award every year to a Past President of the Dallas Chapter of IMA who has significantly contributed his or her time and service," said Jimmie Smith, CPA, chapter president. "Mary Ann secured outstanding speakers and topics for our meetings, which played a key role in increasing average attendance by more tan 80 percent from the prior year. We were also able to offer our members 150-percent more continuing education hours. All this helped us attract many new members and prospective members."

During the 2007-2008 fiscal year, which just ended May 31, Markowitz served as immediate past president and Texas delegate to the national IMA conference. Throughout the year, she led volunteer efforts that more than doubled the number of continuing education hours offered to IMA members, most of whom are accountants and CPAs. She also helped increase membership recruitment and retention.

The Dallas chapter of IMA meets monthly except for June and July, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Addison, Texas. Members attend luncheon or dinner meetings that focus on topics such as Sarbanes-Oxley, financial ethics, career development and various technical finance topics. The chapter has more than 600 members and is one of approximately 200 IMA chapters worldwide.

With a worldwide network of more than 60,000 professionals, IMA is dedicated to empowering accounting and finance professionals to drive business performance. IMA provides a dynamic forum for professionals to advance their careers through Certified Management Accountant (CMAR) certification, research, professional education, networking and advocacy of the highest ethical and professional standards.
