Abalos & Associates walk for autism awareness fundraiser

Employees and family members of Phoenix-based CPA firm Abalos & Associates, PLLC, recently participated in Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks, an event held to raise funds and awareness to support individuals affected by autism.

The fundraiser was held October 31 at Tempe Beach Park, with a satellite walk location at Veteran's Memorial Park in Sierra Vista. The event is hosted in collaboration with Autism Speaks and the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center, an organization that provides lifelong support for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families.

“This is Abalos & Associates’ first year participating in the event, and we could not be more excited to support such an important cause,” Sandy Abalos, managing partner of Abalos & Associates, told AccountingWEB.

"I would like to continue and build on our participation at the autism walk. It was a very well-run event promoting wellness and autism awareness," Abalos added.

Eight Abalos & Associates employees and 17 family members participated in the event and raised $520. In total, more than 14,000 walkers participated in the Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks, and the event raised $900,000.

"The Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks was an awesome adventure," Abalos employee Linda Whitten told AccountingWEB. "Everyone at Abalos was inspired to see all the other teams. We enjoyed participating as a firm. It was very rewarding.”

The firm also participates annually with the Upward Foundation to adopt a family for the holiday season. Upward Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families with special needs through education, therapy, and care.
