Deloitte & Touche Sponsors Tax Challenge
The Deloitte Foundation, a non-profit arm of Big Four firm Deloitte & Touche, is sponsoring its first annual Tax Challenge for undergraduate and graduate tax students.
On Saturday, October 19, eight regional groups of 10-15 teams of up to four students were given five hours to complete a case study that incorporated information analyses, data issues, and alternative tax treatments for a fictitious client. The teams submitted a written solution to a panel of D&T judges. Undergraduate and a graduate students compete in separate divisions of the competition.
After evaluation of the solutions, twelve teams will be selected to advance to a national competition, to be held in Orlando, FL on November 22-24, 2002. Financial awards will be given to all students and schools participating in the national competition.
"Today's students must be prepared to work in a changing and complex world," said Mark M. Chain, president of the Deloitte Foundation and national director of recruiting and human resources management for D&T. "The goal of the Deloitte & Touche Tax Challenge is to support tax education at the university level to better prepare students for their post-graduate work environment. The program provides students with an arena to identify and solve real-world tax issues using multiple information sources in a simulated, team environment."
