CPE Link, AccountingWEB cooperate to enrich university accounting curriculum

In a model of academic and professional cooperation, CPE Link and AccountingWEB have agreed to provide accounting students at California State University, San Bernardino, access to webcasts developed by and for practicing CPAs.
Beginning in 2011, AccountingWEB webcasts produced by CPE Link will supplement three audit-related courses offered at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). These webcasts, on Understanding Assertions and Types of Tests and Understanding Internal Control, focus on areas that Dr. Rich Lillie, Assistant Professor of Accounting at CSUSB, says are particularly challenging for accounting students to master.
“I’m pleased to be able to incorporate these webcasts into my courses because they provide an additional way to learn very challenging material that is available to students 24/7, whenever they need to go back to it,” Lillie said.
The arrangement among CPE Link, AccountingWEB, and the university aims to advance the accounting profession and give students a head start on their careers.
“CPA firms are looking for new hires with knowledge that can be implemented quickly in the practice of performing audits and reviews. The more we can do to build basic practice knowledge into university curricula, the stronger the degree candidates will be when they come to work for CPA firms,” said Larry Perry, CPA, AccountingWEB Academy speaker and developer of the webcasts.
According to Rob Nance, AccountingWEB publisher, the arrangement at CSUSB is appropriate to the AccountingWEB mission.
“The objective of everything we do is to get education opportunities out to people who are or want to become CPAs. AccountingWEB also supports university students through an annual scholarship program," Nance said.
“If these CPE Link courses integrate well into the courses, the agreement may continue into 2012.We hope this arrangement will enrich the academic curriculum and become a model that other colleges and universities will follow,” said Sue Anderson, CPE Link program director.
