Company Announcements: Week of January 30, 2012

Blue & Co., LLC has been named as one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2012. The awards program was created in 2005 and is a project of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM), and Best Companies Group. The Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2012 list is made up of 65 companies.
To be considered for participation, companies have to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Have at least twenty-five employees working in Kentucky
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity
- Be a publicly or privately held business
- Have a facility in the state of Kentucky
- Must be in business a minimum of one year.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process. The first was worth 25 percent of the total evaluation and consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, and demographics. The second part of the process, worth 75 percent of the evaluation, consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. Blue & Co., LLC will be recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in Kentucky 8th Annual Awards Dinner on April 19, 2012, at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville. The final rankings will be announced at the event.
Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, LLP (CB&H) announced that Todd Batchelor, CPA, joined the firm as partner. He has more than seventeen years of experience and will assist and advise clients in all phases of accounting and financial reporting.
"CB&H is proud to have Todd join as a partner within the firm's Financial Services Group," said Cid Hickman, Industry Leader of the Financial Services Group at CB&H. "His extensive experience in the financial services industry, particularly his focus on financial institutions, will be an invaluable asset to our firm."
Batchelor earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and his Master’s degree in Accountancy from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
The accounting and business consulting firm of Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), announced the addition of several staff members in its Nashville office:
Catherine W. Blythe joined the firm as a staff member with the audit services group. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky with Bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Business Administration/Finance.
Mark Burnette, CPA, CRP, CISA, joined the firm as director, risk services. Burnette has more than 16 years of experience in information security and risk management, with extensive experience in the health care industry. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Carson-Newman College and a Master of Accountancy degree from the University of Tennessee. In addition to his role with LBMC, Burnette is as an adjunct professor of accounting at Belmont University where he also serves on the accounting advisory board.
Michelle L. Ebel, CPA, joined the firm as a staff accountant with the audit services group. Ebel is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. She held internships with Betts & Rubio, PLLC, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
Linda-Gail Y. Hough joined the firm as a staff member with the audit services group. Prior to joining LBMC, she was with Skyline Exhibitor Source. Hough graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Master of Accountancy.
The public accounting firm of Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC announced the addition of Sarah J. Bartel, CPA, to its professional staff. In her role as staff accountant, Bartel will provide tax return and audit services to the firm's clients across a wide range of industries. She is also certified as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
"We are thrilled to have Sarah on our team,” said Gary Schlappe, CPA, Managing Member/Owner of Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC. "Sarah's wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry are huge assets to the firm and will benefit our clients immensely."
Bartel graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. She also received her Associate of Arts degree in 2002 from Dodge City Community College.
The public accounting and advisory firm of Louis T. Roth & Co. announced the addition of Jessica Biddle and Christopher Nuttle to its professional staff as staff accountants.
Biddle graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University's Salmon P. Chase College of Law. She also received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Transylvania University. Biddle is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.
Nuttle began his accounting career in 2009. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Murray State University.

Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC (SEK&Co) announced that Peter O. McDonald, CPA, and Jessica L. Mihalov, CPA, were recently promoted from supervisor to manager with the firm.
Peter O. McDonald was promoted from supervisor to manager. McDonald earned his Baccalaureate in Commerce degree with honors in accounting from the University of Ottawa in Canada. He joined SEK&Co in 2000 and works with the firm's small business and individual clients, providing accounting, consulting, and tax services. McDonald is based in the Hagerstown, Maryland, location as a member of the firm's Accounting Services Committee. He is an active resource for staff members in all four SEK&Co office locations.
Jessica L. Mihalov was promoted from supervisor to manager. Mihalov graduated cum laude from
Shippensburg University with a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting. She joined SEK&Co in 2006 and serves audit clients in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania, office.
