New Tool Combines CCH Research with ProSystem fx®
to Identify Service, Revenue Opportunities for Practice
(RIVERWOODS, ILL., October 3, 2001) – For most businesses, existing customers are the best prospects for additional revenue, and that holds true for tax and accounting practices as well, according to CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of tax law information and software. To help tax professionals identify new opportunities for serving clients and enhancing revenue-generating planning services, CCH has introduced CCH® ClientRelate™. The valuable new product is a feature of Tax.CCHGroup (http://tax.cchgroup.com), a new tax and accounting Destination Site featuring the products and services of CCH Federal and State Tax group, CCH Tax Compliance and Aspen Publishers. (For more information, visit http://tax.cchgroup.com or call your CCH Sales Representative at 1 888 CCH REPS.)
CCH ClientRelate supports a professional’s practice at several levels by integrating the authority of the CCH InternetSM Tax Research NetWork™ with the power of ProSystem fx Tax. First, CCH ClientRelate identifies, analyzes and alerts professionals to potential opportunities for enhancing the wealth and reducing the tax liability of clients, while supporting high-value service opportunities for the professional’s practice. In addition, CCH ClientRelate provides fast access to more in-depth research and aids in the development of valuable, plain-English customer communications.
“The goal of CCH ClientRelate is to enable firms to enhance their client relationships,” said Kevin Robert, publisher, CCH Federal and State Tax group. “It unlocks the information in ProSystem fx Tax data and relates it to specific services the firm offers and opportunities brought about by new developments in tax law – all in a secure environment.”
Tax Bulletins Target Opportunities
Subscribers to the CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork can use CCH ClientRelate to search their clients’ ProSystem fx Tax returns and identify tax savings and planning opportunities. Tax professionals have the flexibility of searching by Tax Bulletin, Service Analysis and/or by client.
Tax Bulletins, specially prepared by in-house CCH tax attorneys and CPAs, summarize particular new developments or time-sensitive issues. CCH ClientRelate will deliver via e-mail Tax Bulletins on a wide range of topics. A simple click on any Tax Bulletin will start a search of the professional’s ProSystem fx Tax files. CCH’s search parameters are crafted to identify and select those types of clients most likely to be affected by the new development. Typical scans include:
- Capital Loss Utilizer for Individuals and Businesses
- Bad Debt Reduction Strategies
- Passive Loss Utilizer
- Inventory Exception for Small Taxpayers
- Unrelated Business Income Tax Rules for Public Charities
- Long Term Care Insurance
- Accumulated Earnings Tax Planning
- Travel, Meals and Entertainment Expense Check Up
- Simplified Value LIFO
- Personal Holding Company Tax Planning
- Sole Proprietorships Retirement Planning
- Net Operating Loss Utilizer
- Unreasonable Compensation
- 401(k) Plan Participation Review
- SIMPLE Retirement Plan Review
- Charitable Contributions Maximizer
Search by Analysis and by Client
Service Analyses cover less time-sensitive issues than Tax Bulletins, but function in the same way, with links to searches, in-depth research and client communications.
Links to existing Tax Bulletins and Service Analyses will reside under a ClientRelate blue bar on the subscriber’s personalized “My CCH” page on CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork.
Search by Client
Tax professionals may search all of their ProSystem fx Tax return files to select those that meet the criteria of one or more Service Analyses. Also, they can select a single client and generate a list of all the Tax Bulletins and Service Analyses that apply to that client’s situation.
“This makes it much easier to prepare for client meetings and offer the client all the services he or she might need,” said Robert.
A Secure Environment – Now and in the Future
CCH ClientRelate searches take place entirely on the tax professional’s PC or network, where ProSystem fx Tax return data resides.
No data must reside on or is sent to outside servers, and security within the firm is determined by the firm’s ProSystem fx Tax security settings.
Collaborating to Educate and Communicate
CCH ClientRelate also contains links to sample client letters and to in-depth research sources on the CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork. It automates and speeds the communications process, moving the firm from awareness that the opportunity exists to a carefully targeted list of prospects and communications materials that can be generated quickly and easily.
“It’s a truism that new developments in tax law can lead to increased business for tax and accounting professionals, but what’s often overlooked is the amount of time and energy it takes for a firm to take advantage of those opportunities,” said Robert. “Now, professionals have a quality tool that leverages the CCH information against their client base.”

Voice of the Editor
Which isn’t completely true. I mean, occasionally I drop by when I manage to sneak out of the nonstop frat party over at Going Concern, but I’m mostly a wallflower over there. I’m happy to say that I’ve been given express permission (or explicit orders, if you like) to wander over here to AccountingWEB more often.
Why is that, you might ask? My job is to replace the irreplaceable Gail Perry as Editor-in-Chief. What does that mean? I don’t really know! I think it’ll be fun getting a feel for things, throwing in my own thoughts here and there, and listening to the discussions you’re having about the accounting profession.
