ACPEN annual tax update set for December 10
This year's Accounting Continuing Professional Education Network (ACPEN) Annual Tax Update will provide experienced tax practitioners and advisors in public accounting and private industry with an update on current federal tax developments occurring within the past 12 to 18 months.
The primary emphasis of the course will be on any new tax legislation enacted prior to the presentation date. Since this is an election year, the panel of experts will focus on any significant pre- and post-election enactments and will look forward, with benefit of knowing the election results both in Congress and in the White House, to future changes practitioners may want to consider in tax planning with their clients during the tax season. In addition, the unsettled economy, financial sector, and housing markets, with resulting governmental responses and possible bailouts may affect the upcoming tax season. The panel will address these topics as well.
Participants will receive a thorough summary of the most recent changes in the Internal Revenue Code, the latest court decisions, and IRS revenue rulings and procedures pertaining to individuals, closely-held businesses, and their tax advisors (both internal and external). Practical planning suggestions will be emphasized by the panel of tax practitioners, each with many years of recognized teaching and practice excellence.
Attendees will receive a manual detailing the latest changes impacting the current filing season. Participants will also receive an update on the new Tax Preparer Penalties and Ethical Standards, and the status of final IRS rules that are expected in November. In addition the panelists will discuss possible planning strategies that will be of tremendous value to practitioners, and their clients. As always, participants will be able to submit their questions to panelists by telephone, email, and fax.

- Stay current on federal tax developments affecting individuals, C & S corporations, partnerships, LLCs, and all businesses in general
- Advise clients on new planning opportunities and pitfalls to avoid by analyzing recent Court decisions and IRS pronouncements
- Review supplemental guidance on recently enacted legislation
- Know and understand the most recent court decisions and IRS guidance
Participants may attend this program, live, at a satellite downlink site or attend the live program via Web cast, live, on a personal computer with a broadband or high speed Internet connection.
Webcast attendees will be able to receive the written materials and watch the program as it unfolds. In addition, participants will be able to send the panel questions by telephone, fax, or by e-mail, and have the panel respond in real time.

Which isn’t completely true. I mean, occasionally I drop by when I manage to sneak out of the nonstop frat party over at Going Concern, but I’m mostly a wallflower over there. I’m happy to say that I’ve been given express permission (or explicit orders, if you like) to wander over here to AccountingWEB more often.
Why is that, you might ask? My job is to replace the irreplaceable Gail Perry as Editor-in-Chief. What does that mean? I don’t really know!
