  1. IRS Issues Optional Sales Tax Tables

The Internal Revenue Service has made available on its Web site Publication 600, Optional State Sales Tax Tables, which taxpayers may use for their 2004 returns. The IRS also will send Publication 600 to all taxpayers who get a Form 1040 tax package.

  1. IRS Updates Ethical Standards for Accountants, Tax Attorneys

As part of an ongoing effort to improve ethical standards for tax professionals and to curb abusive tax avoidance transactions, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service have issued final regulations amending Treasury Department Circular 230.
