2. Internet Use Grows in Finance Profession

Nearly all treasury and finance professionals in a recent survey conducted by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) reported widespread use of the Internet for finance functions. The use of the Web is growing -- especially for cash management, investment and foreign exchange -- despite the tech slowdown and the notable failures of many dot-coms and application service providers over the last year.

3. Positioning Yourself in The Current Accounting/Finance Marketplace

Unquestionably, the labor market conditions that we find ourselves in are less than optimal. However, history tells us that the pendulum continues to swing and the good times will return. There are some general themes that are occurring across the board.

4. Helpful Resource - eSecretary Download

Do you use Microsoft Word to draft letters and other documents? An average business enterprise has to draft at least 2-3 letters a day, means 500-600 letters every year. A possible solution to this problem may be eSecretary, an outgoing correspondence management system, which can manage all your outgoing correspondence electronically and help you to manage files more systematically.

5. Six Lessons Accountants Can Learn From Customers

Former SEC Chief Accountant Lynn Turner blasted some of the
accounting and auditing reforms being considered today as "intentionally misguided." He suggests six ways accountants can improve by listening to their customers.

6. FASB Wants Your Vote on "Principles-Based" Standards

The Financial Accounting Standards Board is putting some flesh on the bones of the much idealized but little understood "principles-based" approach to U.S. standard-setting. Read what you can expect from the new approach.

7. IRS Announces 2002 Pension Plan Limitations

The Internal Revenue Service has announced its annual cost-of-living adjustments and dollar limitation adjustments for pension plans for tax year 2003. Many limitation amounts remain unchanged from 2002, but some key amounts have changed.

EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION AND TRAINING RESOURCE

The most important day for an employee - and for the employer are the days that surround the hiring, orientation, training and development of an employee. This booklet is an outline to give guidance to companies as they take this initial step. It's a way in which to ensure that you cover the elements to enable the employee to get off on the right foot and the company to come across in the best of light. Download this document today for just $39.

8. Study Measures Impact of Intangibles on Future Earnings

Global consultant Watson Wyatt conducted a study that measures the impact of key intangibles on a company's future financial performance. The intangibles are aggregated into a human capital index that assesses the levels of value or risk in a company's management practices.

9. Treasury Releases Rules to Prevent Duplication of Losses

The U.S. Treasury Department has issued proposed regulations to prevent the duplication of losses reported by groups of related corporations. The proposed regulations, issued under section 1502 of the Internal Revenue Code, apply to corporations that file consolidated tax returns.

10. Taxpayers Should Check, Revise Withholding Before Year-End

The odds of your withholding exactly matching the amount of tax computed on your tax return are extremely slim. Unless your taxable income can be determined in advance, to the dollar, and your withholding calculated to coincide with the amount of tax due, or unless you are a citizen whose income is low enough that you pay no taxes, chances are you will either owe tax or be entitled to a refund when the annual income tax returns are filed in April.

11. Book Recommendation: Plan Your Estate, by Denis Clifford, Cora Jordan

Planning your estate is one of the most complicated endeavors you'll ever undertake, yet its results are also the most far-reaching; after all, it will continue to affect those you care about long after you no longer can. So it's worth understanding all the options and ramifications, being personally involved, and doing it right. It delves into the factors that affect married people versus single, the laws regarding children, types
of beneficiaries and wills, plus joint tenancy, life insurance, retirement benefits, taxes, and organ donation. Order Your Copy Today!

Q & A Forum

Here is a sample of the questions that have been posted over the past week. Check out the questions below and see if you can lend a hand or visit the Q&A Forum "Member Questions" Page for the most recent questions/answers posted by our subscribers.

1. I need information on the pros and cons of becoming a LLC any information can help.

2. A budget entry debiting a TIF fund and crediting a Capital Projects fund did not balance. It leaves the CIP $480,000 short or the TIF $480,000 over. Our auditor says this is fine. That budget journal entries do not have to balance. Does this sound appropriate?

3. We are planning to implement Win2000 terminal server and I am looking for feedback concerning any problems anyone has had running ProSeries tax software on a terminal server. ProSeries says that the software will run on a terminal server but that they do not support it.

4. I am looking into Tax Software and wanted to get some
recommendations. I am new to the tax prep business and expect less than 50 clients for the upcoming season with the split of business vs personal being 80% personal and 20% small business (sole-proprietorships). I would like to offer electronic filing and federal/state prep. ATX looked pretty good, but a bit overpriced. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
