1. 50% of 401(k) Plan Participants Cash In Early

Here's an alarming statistic and a practice development opportunity for you: A recent study shows that more than 50% of 401(k) plan participants cash out their account upon leaving their employer. If you don't offer 401(k) education programs for your clients, you are not only doing them a disservice, but you're missing an opportunity to bring a significant benefit to future clients (a.k.a. employees of your current clients!)

2. Workplace Training Tools To Reduce HR Lawsuits

Looking for some useful workplace legal training products for your organization? Human Resources Executive Magazine has selected the Civil Treatment Series(R) from Employment Learning Innovations, Inc.(ELI) as one of the top ten training products for 1999. Developed in response to recent decisions by the US Supreme Court, the Civil Treatment(R) video series - including Civil Treatment(R) for Managers, Civil Treatment(R) for Employees and the Civil Treatment(R) Toolkit(TM) - provides organizations with clear, concise tools to inform employees about complex workplace legal issues.

Reduced litigation expenses, reduced external complaints, positive changes in corporate culture, and a stricter adherence to company policies may result after utilizing these tapes. Try 'em out. Tell us what you think.

3. WGL Develops On-Line Corporate Finance Network

For accounting professionals working as a company's Chief Financial Officer, the offering of services provided in the new and improved Thomson Corporate Finance's WG&L Corporate Finance Network may prove to be a powerful resource tool. The new web network offers interactive checklists that guide professionals through key activities such as SEC filings, merger and acquisition investigations, forecasting cash flow, and maximizing collections. In addition, pop up windows offer guidance for the user as the checklists automatically fill in the appropriate forms and calculate the needed data.

4. Republican Tax Bill To Be Vetoed

I know, I know. We've talked about this for weeks now, and yes, the President is finally going to get his chance to sit down and veto the $792 Billion Republican tax cut bill. Chests will be pounded, politicians will jockey for position, and nothing much will change in Washington. "Obviously we're going to reject this partisan fictional budget, which would devastate our country, but in the aftermath of its rejection, we want them to come back and work out a reasonable solution so that we can avoid the kind of train wreck that they have headed us toward," Al Gore said. Gee, do you think he's running for President?

5. Ascension of Women into Partner Ranks is Slow But Steady

CPA Personnel Report's exclusive Annual Survey of Women in Public Accounting - 1999 reveals that the percentage of women partners in the top 25 CPA firms are up 1-2% over last year. Among Big 5 firms, women make up 9-12% of the partnership ranks, despite the fact that they make up clearly 50% of the professional workforce in today's CPA firms. Who has the best performance? Among the Top 25, Michigan's Plante and Moran states that 15% of their partnership is female. For a copy of the survey, contact CPA Personnel Report:
