Accounting Firm’s Charity Challenge Makes a Difference

For the third year, the accounting and management advisory firm of Damon Topham and Company, LLC, is donating $1000 to the Marshfield, Mass., Boys and Girls Club and they are again challenging other local businesses to match the donation. Last year, the challenge netted $7000 in donations from the business community.

The club is outgrowing its current space, as the number of members has grown from 650 to over 900 in the last year.

"The Boys and Girls Club offers a positive recreational environment for our children," says founding partner John Topham. "But our town's club needs financial support from the business community to continue to expand programming and services. This is the ideal opportunity for local businesses to give back to their community through charity." He urges the businesses to make a difference to young lives by matching or exceeding his company's donation. The club's publicity will recognize each donor.

The Damon Topham challenge has four scholarship levels to which to contribute. Donations of $1000 are in the Gold member category, Silver members give at the $500 level and $250 qualifies for Bronze membership. Friends of the Boys and Girls Club contribute under $250.

Fundraisers provide scholarships for families who can not afford the $50 membership, according to the club's executive director Greg Jackson.

The company challenges local business to make a matching, tax free donation of $1000 or more as a contribution to the community in which they live and do business and also to enrich the lives of thousands of children. "A donation of $1000 breaks down to $2.75 a day. Most businesses can afford and prioritize that expenditure," Topham adds.

The Marshfield Club is established as a safe environment and haven for children between 6 and 18 years of age and provides a space to enjoy a variety of supervised recreation and activities for more than 4000 of the youths in the town. Donations may be mailed to the Marshfield Boys and Girls Club at P.O. Box 311, Marshfield, MA, 02050 and information is available at the website at
