Dell Computer has announced it will recall approximately 284,000 batteries for its Inspiron 5000 and 5000(e) notebook computers after a design flaw that causes overheating was discovered.
At least one notebook computer equipped with such a battery has reportedly caught fire. The batteries are manufactured by Panasonic.
The Inspiron 5000 and 5000(e) computers were prevalent on the market between January 2000 and March 2001.
Last fall, Dell issued a recall of approximately 27,000 batteries that were in use in a number of Dell Latitude models and the Inspiron 3700 and 3800. These batteries were also found to overheat and in some cases catch on fire.
