According to industry sources, the Justice Department is very close to recommending that Microsoft be split into two entities in order to avoid running a monopoly in operating systems. The rumor has been confirmed by several of the nation's leading newspapers, including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post.
Under a new scenario, the first company would only manufacture Windows, as well as the browser technology for the Internet. The second entity would market all Office software and anything else developed by the company.
Naturally, Microsoft is denying that breaking the company up into two entities is justified.
Stay tuned for further developments.
